I was there at Barbers this past weekend and noticed that Shawn and Walt were in the Superbike race. I was wondering what special preparations and mods are allowed on an 1125R for the Superbike class? Have you all made them? You all (especially Walt) seem to be seriously down on horse power from the top 10 bikes (at least). Walt, I was afraid for you at the end of the race as Matt looked like he nearly tagged you at the end of the back straight-away (going up the hill from the museum). He ended up going around the outside of you but his closing speed must have been 50-60 mph. You kept drifting to the outside of the turn and he could not make up his mind on which way to go around you until the very end. I don't think that you realized just how close that was. Isn't that dangerous being on a bike that is that much slower than the front-runners? Don't get me wrong, I have been a big fan of yours for a long time, and I would hate to see someone pull a Scott Russell on you (rear end collision). Why not compete in the Daytona Sportbike class, where the disparity in speed is much less? |

Jim, No, it is a totally stock engine in the bike so , yeah we're seriously down on power - probably 45-50 hp. I knew it was close, but I had also just looked over to see him because the blue flags were out. The guys fast enough to lap are professional so I long as I don't do anything stupid, usually neither will they. Matt is a good guy and races (or laps) clean. I can not say the same about Miguel but that's another thread... Regarding Daytona Sportbike, I did race in that class as well. In neither class (30th, 26th in DSB and 24th, 22nd in SBK) did I do as well as I think I can or will, but it was my first ride on the bike. We were literally finishing it on Thursday so I was just trying to get a handle on it. The reason for running Superbike is two fold, one there's money involved and for two Superbike is where I wanted to be my whole career. The 1125 offers me that chance. |

Don't think a TON of us aren't watching you racing there Walt! Shame to miss Infineon but it's Willow race weekend for us - but we'll see you at Laguna (yeah, we're pitting for "some other Buell racer" but we're all family here!!!!) |

I will be skipping Infineon. We still have some things to work out and I would like to get some more time on the bike. I am planning on doing Laguna though, in both Sportbike and Superbike. |

Superbike is where I wanted to be my whole career. Congratulations! Just getting out there is a HUGE accomplishment. No matter what people may think about the AMA or DMG, the fact is, AMA Superbike is probably still only behind MOTO-GP and WSBK in terms of the level of competition (you only have to look at Ben Spies to get an idea of what the riders in AMA Superbike are capable of). And now that you've survived your first race, you have something to build on. As long as you can find ways to make some improvements each time out, you should be able to be more and more competitive. GO WALT!!! |

Walt, great meeting you and Dick on Sunday. Hey, you didn't finish last. You looked good out there. Keep up the good work. Remember, if you don't want the bike, I do. All the best to you and your efforts this year in both SB and DSB. Frank. |

That's too bad you won't be at Infineon, Walt. I guess Shawn won't be there either it sounds like. DON'T let the naysayers dissuade you from running in the Superbike class (especially for someone so uninformed that he didn't even realize you were running in Daytona Sportbike as well.) Best of luck to you and all the Buells the rest of the season. |

i was very impressed with Walt's and Shawn's ability to run the races(asb and dsb) back to back with minimal downtime. those boys are in great shape. Congratulations on your first run in the premier class Walt!! i didn't realize that it was your first time. BEST LUCK!! tim |

Shame to miss Infineon but it's Willow race weekend for us Sorry, misinterpreted that--thought "us" meant Shawn and crew. Glad to hear he's gonna be there! At least I will have someone to pay attention to when the Superbikes hit the track. |

I coulda been wrong but I THOUGH he was going to be at Infineon since that is the Willow race weekend and he was going to miss Willow for Infineon... and Ozzy is pitting for him too, I believe. Yep - you'll have somebody to cheer for. Seriously, stop in the pits and say HI to Shawn, Mitsu, Marianne... Ozzy too. He's that older looking guy wearing the Higbee Racing/Bartels team shirt... (oopsie - I meant to say "Distinguished" and not "old") |

I know Ozzie...we chatted for a few minutes at the last Willow Inside Pass day. Had I a clue they were all there at Fontana, I would have stopped in. Oddly, the few times I walked past Shawn's garage the only person there was the blonde gal (assumed it was Shawn's wife or gf.) Or maybe they were all there and she is the only one I noticed? Possibility. |

Elvis, some folks have long stated that British SuperBike is 'better' than US, & 2nd only to WSB these days, I agree..... |

Walt, thanks for the personal reply. I understand why you want to race in the Superbike race, and if you can make the cut, go for it. I have always enjoy watching you race the Buells in CSS and Formula USA/ASRA, so this is no different. Be careful out there with those crazies. I envy you. DON'T let the naysayers dissuade you from running in the Superbike class (especially for someone so uninformed that he didn't even realize you were running in Daytona Sportbike as well.) I am not a naysayer, but who are you to say...someone who didn't even know that Shawn was going to be at Infineon! Any idiot knows that! I am concerned that 50-60 mph closing speed might not be handled so well by some of those who will be lapping riders in a longer race (the Barber race was way short because of a.) rain and b.) red flagged...they are not all as good as Matt. We need to help Walt get a real Superbike engine so that he will not be in such danger from those kamikazies. How much could it cost to get a factory Buell engine cranking out 185+ horse? } |

Walt, I was very excited to see you get back on a Buell. I know you, as well as a hand-full of other riders have been instrumental getting Buell to the level its at now. I would hate for somebody else to get the glory. Good luck!! |

someone who didn't even know that Shawn was going to be at Infineon! Any idiot knows that! Well considering the ties that Slaughter and Shawn have, it was an honest misinterpretation of one of the posts above. Also, knowing the fact that Shawn dominates at Willow (meaning $$$$ income) versus spending money at Infineon...well you can see why one might believe he was going to Willow. Considering that you (Buell race fan?) were actually at the race(s) and didn't know that Walt was running in both classes, well who's calling who an idiot? |

Walt ran 30th and 26th in those Sportbike races. I didn't even know he was there at the track as it was his first ride on this bike, so I wasn't looking of him. There was another Buell out there running around way back in the back too and I do not have the slightest idea who he was. There was plenty of action at the front to keep my tiny little mind busy, with Danny and Barney making the charge to the front. They did not call Walt's name in either race so it wasn't hard to miss him. I know you are not really an "idiot"... please. But you did come down on my post pretty hard, especially since I was only expressing my concern on closing speeds and a near miss that I witnessed, so I gave some back...dish it out, but can't take it? |

Dunno, Jimi. You also suggested that he consider racing in the DSB class (which he is of course.) To me, giving Walt Sipp and kind of advice on racing is pretty bold. |
