I hope not a repost or reflashing of info. Holy sweatsocks, turn the laundry over. You ever watch this show? AMAproprimetime on the speed channel is decent. Got lots of clips on their website I checked out, interview with Danny Eslick and lots of last lap clips. Not the cat ass, but its coverage. And for people like me without speed, its like candy. http://www.speedtv.com/video/popup/1745137246 click on the motorcycle racing tab at the top and scroll around |

I dropped over to amapro racings website and used the 'contact us' feature to let them know how much I'm enjoying the sportbike class. I didn't go on about Buell, I talked about the whole thing, it's great racing! I asked for more time to get to know th riders as well, since they have several 'slotting' into place.. Danny is bubbly, friendly and just too happy to be riding for words (a great ad for motorcycling if I ever saw one), Jake is warm and cool like a good friend, making him the best pitch man there, Disalvo is the everyman, low key and working hard to do better every time. Hacking is the bad boy of the series, looking to stir up something.. Anything. Rodger is the relaxed rocket jock that's just come back from TDY and is ready to put in some serious flight time... Need I say more? I also suggested they change the TV show format to 1 hour of Sportbike, 30 minutes of MotoGT, 15 minutes of Supersport (600 rookie class) and 5 minutes of Mladin doing his thing in Stupor-Bike.. Face it folks, when compared to WSBK/WSS, DSB is the next best series we get to see and so far each race rocks from start to finish! Let 'em know how much we like it! That should encourage them to keep it up as it slowly sucks in more and more race fans.... Which is what they need right? |

I was actually kinda liking the buell underdog battle, but non the less we need more coverage of the class "pro sportbike" i think its called? I am brand biased twords my buell but the racing was top notch regardless of who made your machine, thats what I like to see. I also caught Eslick in one of the sportbike races fighting for 1st on atlanta I think, he blasts past the 2nd place winner on one of the last turns outlets so close they touch bars and feet... I was jumping up outta my seat with excitement, yelling at the screen "GO YOU M*****F****R!!!!GO!!!!" and I havent done that in a long....long time for racing. maybe we can get a mass email to have them just stream those races on the website! would make for lots of viewers. and yeah that wheelie was awesome court, a little poke in the back from Buell to everyone else...buell says go faster or move outta my line. Cool last lap, as fun to re-watch as it was watching on speed... Looks like the blue bike overcooked the exit and the back stepped out, and he had to let off the throttle... Also interesting to watch the lap and see that the gap by which the R6 was behind at the start of the straight was the same or less then it was at the end of the straights. But that 1125 just explodes out of the corners... and the net effect is a very close race. Now we just need the Triumph and Aprilla to get closer to the front... A recipe for great racing for sure. |

I just pulled this off of the AMA Official web site: News Weight-to-Power Ratios Studied Among AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Superpole Contenders "BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (May 2, 2009) - In an ongoing effort to maintain a competitive balance among all manufacturers competing in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL division, AMA Pro Road Racing officials dyno tested the 10 motorcycles that qualified for Friday's Superpole session at Barber Motorsports Park. "AMA Pro Racing is dedicated to ensuring that we deliver to our fans great competition on the track between a variety of brands," said AMA Pro Racing President Roger Edmondson. "This was an important step in getting the formula where it needs to be to make good on that commitment." It was the first test of its kind performed by AMA Pro Road Racing officials on Daytona SportBikes, although similar tests have been performed in the past for Canadian Superbike and SunTrust Moto-GT bikes. The dyno tests revealed that the bike with the highest weight-to-power ratio was 2.65 pounds per horsepower, and there was a difference of 0.49 pounds per horsepower between the top performer and the lowest-ranked bike among those tested at 3.14 pounds per horsepower. There was a 0.28 pounds per horsepower gap between the first- and second-ranked bikes. AMA Pro Road Racing officials will now utilize this data along with other variables, such as aerodynamics, ram air, rider size and lap times to determine if any additional performance modifications are necessary to provide a better show for AMA Pro Road Racing fans. "This is the first time we've ever done this at AMA Pro Road Racing," said Director of Competition Colin Fraser. "We will analyze these variables along with a multitude of other things that affect performance on the track. The most important variable to analyze is lap time. After all, we race at the track, not the dyno." A complete listing of the dyno testing results will not be released, as raw horsepower is meaningless without an inclusion of all the other variables. Any adjustments to the bikes will be announced once all data is analyzed." It looks like there could be some complaints from the competitors coming in about the perceived Buell's weight to power ratio advantages. We knew it was coming. I could hear it in Hacking's interviews at the first race interview of the season. It will be interesting if AMA does anything as a result of the testing. It is awfully damned competitive right now...why would they upset that apple cart? It would be madness, I say, madness. |

Perhaps so... But if the posts around here on the weight and hp of the 1125 are about right then it was the second ranked bike. (Curious, is that by class, make or what?) 395 divided by 139 = 2.84 At 395 lbs the 1125 would have to be putting down 149 hp to get to 2.65 lbs per hp. It's unlikely that it was the Buell that was the hp champ from the info we've been given on the bikes. (Message edited by unibear12r on May 05, 2009) |

From what you posted Jimi I'd bet we'll be hearing LESS griping from the 600 clans now. Maybe we'll get more info soon and know for sure then. |

Saw this posted on the speedvision forum. Could be true' could be B.S: This is like unraveling a spy mystery but if you keep your nose to the ground, you can find info and do a little math and comprehension. This a quote from Chaz Davies crew cheif As I knew our power and weight numbers, I learned from the email that not only were we not close to the top of the power to weight ratios, we were not even equal to at least one of the 600s! This simply confirmed what I have seen on track all year, with some of the 600s out accelerating us up the hill out of turn five at Road Atlanta. Conversly, I believe our 'big twin' is top five competitive not because of our engine, but because our chassis works so well. That tells me he thinks he has the 3rd or 4th best HP to weight ratio and behind as he says,at least 1 600 2nd Quote from same guy We drained our fuel and put our bike on the scales with a dry tank. I knew within a couple of pounds what our bike would weigh, but just to make things lighter and more interesting, I asked the tech official to guess what our bike would weigh. He laughed and gave me a guess. As it was, his guess was off to the tune of 18 pounds. He was surprised. That answers the question on how they are weighed. As far as the weight, and what i have heard as far as none of the bikes being able to reach the allowed weights with the parts available, the bike was at LEAST 18 pounds over the 385 allowed for the Aprilia. That means he was at least 403 lbs tank empty. 3rd quote from same guy the Buell is definitely NOT down on power, not to us, not to the 600s, not to some small cars. As expected, the Buell was the runaway leader in HP to weight ratio. Not confirmed but supposedly the Buell weighed 397 tank empty . That means it pulled 149.8 on the dyno. Second best was a 600, which suprised me a little. I thought it would have beeen the Aprilia. SOOO,what 600 and what did it pull. We know the ratio for 2nd is 2.94 pounds per HP but we dont know the weight. If the 600 cannot make weight [360] like the Buell and Aprilia, lets use 370 lbs as a figure on the best 600.That means one of the 600's pulled 125.8 hp. Still, close to the 25hp we have said they are down to the Buell, not to mention 40ftlbs of torque. That also would mean that among the top 600's, there is a spread of about 8 hp. That is accpetable if you figure in the variables of a dyno run such as what kind of shape the tires were in after qualifying etc: |

Interesting That's the weight I've heard for the Buell but all I've heard for the hp is 139 not 149. But then all any of us are dealing with here is hearsay on this so I could be off on the hp easy. Still 149 seems a LOT for just a pipe and ecm. Or are they upgrading a lot more than that now? |
