OK - Shawn doesn't post here (but probably lurks) - word on the street is that he has resigned from Buell MoCo to race FULL TIME!!! HELLUVA commitment I'd say! Higbee has some history with Bartels from back in the 883 days - when he and the Bostroms, Zemke, Hendley and Ecklund were all riding Bartels bikes... but I doubt that Bill Bartels can float Shawn's efforts by himself. Here's hoping we can find an additional sponsor to support a well-regarded (and STARVING) privateer! Gutsy move on Shawn's part!!! |

>>>word on the street is that he has resigned from Buell MoCo to race FULL TIME!!! I think that is an accurate statement. I certainly hope that there is some way we can do our part to support Shawn. |

why not a 2009 version of Elves? by that I mean an organized, BadWeb-based, on-going collection plate long-time owners may or may not realize how key Shawn's input over the years has been to our motos' evolution why not make Shawn's efforts in AMAPro Racing the Elves' new 'Bonneville' ?

by that I mean an organized, BadWeb-based, on-going collection plate Excellent idea. Could it be something as simple as a PayPal account where we contribute? |

Not to take away from any other Buell racing efforts but in Higbee's case, I sure haven't heard about a major big-league sponsor so I'm thinking that Shawn's efforts truly are those of the starving privateer. If you look at Daytona prize money - I think he got $5K for fifth place - so unless there are major contingencies in addition to what he got from the Buell contingency money - I bet he's not breaking even... and now, with no salary... we should not just send him money, we should send FOOD coupons too! Start cutting up those magazines and mail him those coupons! |

I don't have much, but i'm in for a tiny amount of at least token out of pocket...I know that don't sound like much, and it isn't....but it is SOME!! In my next life, I will be a 7 digit earner..but this life...I'm stuck at 5...LOL...hell...in my next life, I plan to be the one needing sponsorship.... |

Why would Shawn leave Buell without any financial thought. He has a family. I'm confident that something is in the work's but just hasn't surfaced for us to know. |

Shawn is nobodys fool. If he is in fact doing this, I'm sure he has his bases covered. That doesn't mean we can't support him though. I think the BadWeb contingency money is a good idea, if there is some left. |

Agreed that he aint nobody's fool - but I think that were he to be heavily funded, we'd likely maybe have heard SOMETHING??? Dunno, I can speculate with the best of them but even PITTING for Shawn at Willow (when I'm not on the track too) - I don't hear NUTTHIN. |

I don't have alot to spare amymore(that whole divorce/retirement/my own racing thing) but will pony up 50.00 for an effort like Shawn's. |

Theoretically if Shawn finishes in the top 20 every AMA race weekend he could walk away with some paper. 1st – $7,500.00/$15,000.00 Daytona 2nd thru 10th – $4,000.00/$5,000.00 Daytona 11th thru 20th - $3000.00/$5,000.00 Daytona Multiply that by 13 scheduled race weekends and that could make it somewhat tolerable. Better yet if he runs 2 classes as he did in Daytona there is more money to be earned albeit it will cost more to make more. |

As long at Shawn gets his work on the bike done for free, gets all travel and lodging expenses for a crew of 4 for free, gets a couple replacement engines for free, has NO medical expenses (besides insurance) - he HAS TO have a sponsor outside of contingency payments and prize money. Let's say he finishes FIRST in EVERY one of 13 races - not knowing how much is paid in the rest of the season, he MIGHT make $105,000. Not a bad income if you live on the couch with NO EXPENSES. Not down-playing Higbee's skills but I don't see him winning every race in the coming season. Not sure what his sponsors are contributing beyond giving him their "stuff" and I seriously doubt Buell "gave" shawn the 2 or 3 bikes and spares he's now running. I believe that Bartels picked one up... but can't confirm that fact. Purchase price of a bike is NOTHING in the context of a year's racing costs!! SPONSORS Buell American Motorcycles Bartels Harley-Davidson / Buell Shoei Helmets PILOT Leathers Vortex PitBull Stands & Accessories EK Motorcycle Chains He just has to have another sponsor lurking in the wings somewhere. |

He just has to have another sponsor lurking in the wings somewhere. Ever since he started posting his blog, I paid particular attention to his mention of a major sponsor that Richie Morris was trying to get for him that fell through. During the 200, I was rooting hardest for Shawn - not because I didn't want the other Buell riders to do well, but I knew they had solid support. I figured a good result for Shawn could lead that mysterious sponsor (or others) to pull the trigger. 5th place in a race like the Daytona 200 is pretty damn good (IMHO), so I certainly hope someone with some money is taking notice. . . .of course in the current economy even the top teams are probably having trouble finding sponsors. But hopefully Shawn either has something lined up or at least some very good leads. It'll be fun to watch either way, and I think I think nearly everyone here wishes him the best no matter what. . . . maybe if any potential sponsors actually stop in here, they'll see the kind of support Shawn has and realize those people will be willing to buy products offered by sponsors who support his efforts. |

Wonder how much it would cost me to get a Double Lung Archery decal on his bike? Hmmmm? That would be pretty cool. |

I wonder if HD/Buell dealers in any local area could team up and provide support. For instance in SoCal there are 6 dealers in a 50 mile radius. It seems that they could be a valuable resource if the concept could be presented accordingly. |

Shawn has the 18th best practice time in Superbike this morning - well off the pace of the top riders, but making some progress from his 25th place finish at Daytona. In that field of big, big hitters, I think that sort of practice should give us some hope that he can make some progress as he develops the bike. |

Dris, I still have to ask Shawn if he can use the exhaust that Glendale has. If you have a developed map for that - it might be able to find its way onto one of Shawn's bikes... we're trying to make it happen! |

"Anybody remember the Badweb contingency money that was raised a couple years ago?? Is there any left. Seem's to me it wasn't all paid out was it?? Maybe do the same for Shawn. Maybe Shawn would put a nice size BadWeb logo on the bike?? Just a thought." In addition to the thousands paid out for Buell FX racers some years back, we also awarded a total of over $5K to Buell racers at Road America just last July during the Homecoming weekend. That pretty much depleted our Buell racers awards fund. I believe that we currently have around $300 or so in the award fund at present, and that is thanks to a $200 check just recently submitted by Mr. Slaughter. I'll try to get in touch with Shawn to see if he has a paypal and is willing to run a BadWeB sticker in return for sponsorship here. |
