Cross posted from "Help with Safety Wire" thread. Got it done!!! I bought 5 or 6 bits. Tried to do the first bolt (one of the front axle pinch bolts) on the bike. The first bit broke within 30 seconds. So I decided to pull the bolts one by one and put them on the drill press. Broke the 2nd bit on one of the last bolts. The oil drain and primary drain were the easiest to drill through. Used hose clamps on all the oil fittings, then safety wired them together. Drilled the axles last. Had to dremel out material for the front brake bolts, rear brake bolts and front axle. The axle sliders slipped on without much problem. (Message edited by Paint shaker on February 16, 2009) |

The good news; the steering damper arrived yesterday. I tore into the front end and had it all apart. T The bad news; When I checked the fork clamp for fitment, I found I was sent the the 1125r fork bracket... Dang the luck!! More bad news; So later in the day, Eric starts tearing the front end down to put the race springs in. During this process, it was learned the race springs had been accidentally sold to another Bueller... More good news; While the #554 Buell racing machine was on display, several people come over to check it out. Going to the track tommorrow!! |

Preface- On Friday I spoke with a gentleman from Canada about tires. He gave some really good advice, but didn't believe I was turning 1:29s on Corsa IIIs. When he asked what I would be running, I told him a Buell. At which point his entire conversation turned to why I should be riding an I-4 600. More on this later. Feb 22 @ Jennings. I arrived a little after 7:30 am (a little late) without a pit crew as Buellgator was sick. I had just enough time to set up the pit, pull the rims and deliever them to the Pirelli guy. After picking the Pirelli guy's brain, I decided to step up to the Super Corsas. I get back to the pit, get the rear on and the rider's meeting is called. Xopti arrives to help in the pits. We cranked the suspension down, get the wheels back on the bike and put the tire warmers on. Unfortunately, there was not going to be enought time on the warmers to get the bike out for the first session. Hmmmmmm... what to do? Well, I do have the street bike in tow after gettng the stator replaced... Xopti prepped it and I did my normal "wait til third call" before I show up to the hot pits. Man it sucks being in the rear of 25+ riders!!! The rest of my intermediate sessions I made sure I was in the hot pits by 2nd call. This worked out pretty good and I started at or near the front the rest of the day. When I did started in the front, I did not get passed. I also noticed how much speed I am picking in the corners with the suspension set better setp and the Super Corsa tires (they rock!!). I did get run off the track in turn 11. I was working on a Kawa and another guy for about 1 1/2 laps when the checkered flag was thrown in 7. I got around the Kawa going into 11, but the other guy decided he was going to check up and as I was passing him, he drifted out and left me no room. Off in the grass I went. Brought it back to the track without problem. I spoke with him about it later. It was all good, he had no idea I was there and set up to pit waay early. My last intermediate session of the day and it's the Canadian gent and I on the front row for the start. I followed him for a lap and his friend got around me. Then I went to work!! I got back around his friend within the same lap and over took the Canadian gent. Never saw them again, until I decided to pit and work on my starts (I had built up a pretty good lead!!). I am consistently in the 1:29's now and turned a personal best of 1:26!! At this point I asked and was bumped to the expert class. I started in the rear of the pack. They crept away from me in the straights, but I was able to maintain, but not make up time in the corners. I did about 4 laps, but those guys are "game on" every lap. The level of concentration is intense!! So I decided I had enough for the day. Pulled into the pits, packed up shop and drove home. The van decided to act up and almost didn't start after stopping for McDonalds in Lake City. It did and I made it all the way home. All in all a very successful day. Learned a lot about tires and suspension. Learned a lot about passing and turned some fast (for me) laps!! My first race is now 2 weeks away. Can't wait to mix it up!! |

Ok... I now have the correct parts for the Buell damper and the GPR damper!!! I'll probably put the GPR on since it should be the easiest. Many thanks to Jamie at Buell Racing and AL at American Sportbike for getting the issues corrected!! |

Cool! Tell the WERA f*cks I'll see them at VIR. I'm stoked, just pre-entered: practice day and 7 races over the weekend. My ole' Buell is looking good in your hands Laird. Have fun! Here's my racing mantra (feel free to use it): Twist that throttle ya f**king pu**y! |
