can someone help me find a website that lists all the rules for a track day bike. i know the basics, bellypan, safety wire, etc.. but would like to know all the details | ||

Find your track first- it's different depending on where you go. The track's website should give you a list of what's required. Unless you plan on going to more than one track, there's no reason to make more changes than what is required by the facility you're using. | ||

Yep what Peter ^ said. If you're doing track days - it depends on the track day operator. If you're doing just one track, that website for the track will have the info. If you are planning on racing, you'll have to look at that organization's rules. Unfortunately, the ALL vary a bit. Some require safety-wiring of exhaust hangers, some don't... some require safety-wiring of all radiator clamps... most require use of non-lubricating coolant. Rules vary a LOT. Where you thinking of riding/racing? I see you're in Fort Worth - that puts you in CMRA territory (TX, OK, LA, KS) http://www.cmraracing.com/ Seriously, you can post there on their forums. Racing BBS's are very helpful about rules and how-to's. Most have a FAQ section that is worth checking out ahead of time and don't hesitate to post up as a "newbie." There's MUCH LESS BS on racing boards since (as I have found) - if you aren't the fastest guy out there, that only means the racers like you MORE - since the bigger the starting field, it usually means the more points for the leaders. I have friends racing CMRA who work in our other division in Fort Worth. CMRA is a good club. The endurance races last year even had "surprise" appearances by Schwantz and Spies at a local endurance race!!! (CMRA is their home club) (Message edited by slaughter on August 24, 2008) | ||

i would be racing in the dallas-ft.worth area only as i am a cash strapped newbie so if anyone can recommend a good track in this vicinity it would be greatly appreciated. thanks for the help. | ||

also, as i interpret things, track days are more or less a run what you brung, anyone can enter as long as they pass tech, no points, no prize racing. is this correct? sorry if im a little green here. | ||

cresson motorsports ranch and eagle's canyon are the 2 closest tracks to you. sometimes there is a trackday posted on the dallas storm front section. there is a buell inside pass trackday at eagle's canyon 23 sep that i will be attending. if you go to the cmra website and find their schedule it will give you the location of the tracks in your area. you will become addicted once you start. tim | ||

I have not yet found a track day operation that wasn't responsive to email or phone questions. Tape up all lights. Good tires. (didn't see anything on their website) - give a call or email. one piece of advice - IF you have to tape lights, use the 3M Safe Release masking tape (blue). It comes off cleanly after a few days in the sun. If you try to save a buck and use duct tape or regular masking tape, you will be hating life at the end of the day when you try peeling it off - and find it has burned on in the days's sun! | ||
