Other than Catalyst Racing are there any belly pans for 1125Rs? Anyone running one with CCS? What are they requiring for: 5.2.13 All oil, fuel, and coolant carrying hoses or lines must be secured at all connecting points by clips, clamps, safety wire, or other approved means. 5.2.14 Oil coolers must be securely mounted in a protected area. All connections must be safety wired or otherwise secured by acceptable means. 5.2.15 On 4 stroke machines, crankcase ventilation must be routed into a heat resistant catch can of at least 350cc capacity or the air box. A. If ventilation is routed into the air box, any drains from the air box must be sealed. B. If ventilation is routed to a catch can, the overflow tube from the catch can must be routed into the intake area of the carburetors so that any overflow from the catch can will be drawn into the engine. C. Radiator overflow and battery vent tubes may be routed into a separate catch can that need not be vented into the intake area. Side displays may be painted on rear body work only if that body work presents a basically flat surface of adequate area. Otherwise, a 10 by 12 plate must be mounted. |

running the 1125R? How did you safety wire all the oil and water lines? Catch can for the radiator and battery? I sent Buell Racing an email - is phone better? I have 3 weeks to receive my license and the belly pan so I should be in good shape. Thanks |

Josh, Going to the races and meeting/talking with tech dudes is ALWAYS a great way to get their take on the details. Club racing is always much more casual than AMA (the officials are MUCH MORE approachable) - even though tech requirements are usually MORE stringent than AMA! Seriously, you should meet/talk with the tech guys between sessions on a race weekend. I've found they're ALWAYS interested in helping answer questions BEFORE you see them in tech for the first time. ASK them about the side numbering. Now that ALL organizations are using transponders, they're not quite so anal-retentive but sometimes in Novice classes, they have been known to make you zip-tie number plates in place. Also Henry has always been pretty responsive on email (if he's not on the way to or from a race in the Buell van) (Message edited by slaughter on July 25, 2008) |

Can't - GIR isn't really a hot bed for moto racing. My first time to visit will be raceday! I do have a good group of locals to help me out and I can pass the club tech no problem, its CCS I need to pass. |

If you have some locals to help, that'll really go a long ways to easing your mind. I looked at Higbee's bike out here and I'm still not sure HOW to secure the oil lines without using a booger or JB Weld or Silicone (usually OK in most race orgs) Dang... I gotta work. Much more interesting doing this instead!!! |

So I call my dealer (as prompted by Jamie at Buell Racing) and I'm a little worried as I know they have enthusiasm, but don't know how quick they might be to actually get involved. Talk to TJ (parts mgr) only to find he was chatting with Henry yesterday and they are in the process of getting setup to order race parts and will check today to see how quick they can get me a belly pan ...and find out TJ runs with my local track group... |

Heck - you can always have the race parts bought through one of the other dealers and drop-shipped to you if your local dealer won't or can't. You can call Josh or Serge at Glendale's parts counter and see if that would work. Tell them you know me from working and racing (might help or might get you hung up on) You fill out the pre-authorization forms yet for Buell Racing? |

I thought the form was if I needed something from the race van? Looks like my dealer is all over it. Now to hit them up for a sponsorship... |

Yeah - I shot Henry a note about those forms this morning because IF I'm working through a dealer who has agreed to be responsible for parts, it MIGHT mean that I can then actually call Henry directly for stuff and have it shipped directly to me without waiting for arrangements to be made through the dealer. Could be handy if for example you're going to a race and just wanted to get a box of spare controls ("just in case") - it would be nice to be able to call up and have them on the way. Less of a hassle for your local dealer. I'll let you know what I hear. We have NO Buell Racing van out here in the West - so if the pre-authorization forms are only for track-side purchasing, we don't need to fill them out... but if you are going to race at Autobahn, RA or other CCS venues out there, you MIGHT want to be able to take advantage of the Buell Van. The Van and Henry were out at Las Vegas for F-USA about 4 years ago and at that time, he'd just give away small stuff - controls, shifters, stuff like that. Even those little things cost money though. |

Got a note back from Donna Lakin who is handling the Buell Racing parts sales. Since there is no Western US Buell truck at the races, I had asked about having Buell Racing parts drop-shipped to me directly and billed to my dealer (I'd then pay my dealer on a monthly basis). By reading her response, it looks like you COULD order directly from Buell Racing, as long as your dealer is willing to work with you on the deal. Obviously what you pay your dealer is going to fall something between suggested retail and free - depending on what they're willing do to to support your racing. Some dealers will just charge you their costs plus a handling fee.
quote:Hi Steve, I just talked to Henry and he said you can order the parts with him; but you need to have permission from the Dealer. If it’s not a problem please fill out the form and have the Dealer sign it. Can you also please let the Dealer know that you will be calling Buell Racing for parts.

Josh, I race an XB12R and have purchased race parts through Gateway by getting the part numbers from Henry Duga. Send me an email with your phone number and I'll be happy to help with getting you set-up. I also race with CCS and can help with tech inspection advice. You probably know me as an instructor at the race licensing clinics at GIR. |

Get my PM? I'm heading over to Wolf's tomorrow to get his opinion (i think he's a MCRA tech inspector?) on the oil and water lines plus radiator catch can. TJ was off yesterday and I can't seem to get him today. I did find out I'm CCS#623 tho |

picked up the belly pan on Saturday. Looks decent, but no mounting hardware. I only see two bolts that might work (unused threaded hole behind kickstand and the bolt holding the right peg bracket), anyone know how the race teams have their pans installed? |

we'll probably have to fab some brackets out of thin aluminum stock. it won't be too hard |

Belly pan install clutch side: Dan or Dave - think it will pass inspection "safe and workmanlike" is I think the phrase. Yeah, 7 months, 2500 miles and the muffler is rusting like crazy!. No running on salted roads either. |

tight we'll need to work on your safety wire(not enough twists) but other wise it looks good Your safety wire should look like this I can't remember exactly but I think for the .032" stuff its 7 turns per inch |

Yeah I saw your pic earlier. Do you have one of the safety wire pliers? |

IMHO, I generally use fewer turns when safety wiring. The twists in the wire are pretty much just to keep the wiring "neat" & connected, but overtwisting can cause issues. Its pretty easy to twist the wires enough that you can break the wire. Even if the wire isn't broken, overtwisting can weaken it. I usually leave the braid a little bit short and manually twist the last turn or so to keep tight twists away from the bolt heads. But I'm paranoid. |

yeah, with the .032" wire 10 turns/inch is the max before it loses strength. |
