I posted at the same time as you, Doerman.

Is it fair to say this is the biggest Buell race performance ever?

My jaw's on the floor.

I'm just beside myself with (dis) belief!

The "dis" part vanishing like dew in the desert at sunrise.
Can you just imagine the slicing and dicing for 3 place.. Steve Crevier beat the GSXR by a tirewidth. That just speaks volumes about Steve as a racer.
3 14 Steve Crevier Maple Ridge, BC 20 1:10.665 3 +34.223 Buell 1125R
4 16 Francis Martin Sherbrooke, QC 20 1:10.543 2 +34.313 Suzuki GSX-R1000

My heartfelt congratulations to Steve Crevier, Deely and to the Buell Motorcycle Company. This is a huge day for Buell race fans!

This is fantastic!

I got chills over this. Yes, BIG BIG news. How exciting!!!!! COngratulations to Steve and his team. This is just nuts.

I guess I get my wish of seeing the 1125r on the dyno, since he finished on the podium. THAT should be eye-opening for most people that don't have a clue about the 1125r.

"In a remarkable performance Maple Ridge, B.C.’s Steve Crevier finished third in the debut of the Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada / Ruthless Racing Buell 1125R."

. . ."That put Martin in third and Crevier fourth, but despite a big horsepower disadvantage the twin-cylinder Buell passed the Suzuki on lap 19 and held on to the finish.

“It’s quite amazing,” said Crevier, a six-time Canadian Superbike champion. “We only got the bikes last Friday, and the crew has been slaving for a week solid. We even had to use a DOT rear tire because our rim was too narrow for the slick. It got a little mushy at the end but it felt OK.”

I would have LOVED to have seen that pass on lap 19. The cameras had to have been focusing on that battle as there wasn't really a fight for the lead. The commentary would been interesting to hear too. Can someone PLEASE tape the race in September on TSN?

The next round is going to be VERY tough.

Two mile track and look at that straight section. And the curves that there are don't look very sharp.

Hopefully they'll be able to find a few more HP over the next month.

I think we may have to resign ourselves to the fact that he probably won't pick up a lot of points that round, but the remaining courses look better after that.

And we thought that a top 10 finish this week would be miraculous...but you are right, the track in Calabogie did not put a premium on HP and the next track obviously does. NOthing would shock me at this point.

And using a DOT rear tire because the rim was not wide enough for a racing slick.

"I would have LOVED to have seen that pass on lap 19. The cameras had to have been focusing on that battle..."

That pass happened somewhere up on the back non visible to spectators part of the track. Earlier in the race Crevier was all over Francis Martin's Suzuki's back tire thru the last set of right handers before the finish line. He did take him on the inside just before the corner a couple of laps prior to 19, but lost that spot a lap or two later.

Now I hope this will convince the powers that be at HD corporate, Buell is going places that HD never dreamed of… The way I see it, you have a off the showroom floor 1125R with a few tweaks (chain swingarm, and ecm programming) and you have a proven winner, not to mention stock exhaust and dot rear tire, that has the potential of blowing away multimillion dollar factory sponsored race teams.

Come on HD, for the cost of procuring, packaging, and marketing HD coffee, model airplanes and Christmas ornaments you could fund a grass roots Buell race program. Like make the chain swingarms available along with a programmable ECM similar to the Screaming Eagle Race Tuner, as well as freeing up Erik, Henry and the Boys to help race tune and refine along with the contingency program.

Then again you could go for the gusto and create a full out Buell Racing Program (bring back the glory days).

Remember if it wins on Sunday it sells on Monday…

V/R,
Nick

Nick,

The chain-drive kit (which includes 20+ parts, including swingarm) will be a racing accessory, as well as many other good things to improve 1125R performance on the track. You should be able to buy, with a slight time delay, all the parts that are available to Steve Crevier's team. For more information, contact Henry Duga at Buell racing support.

Thanks much Anony...

Any chance of getting corporate to discontinue coffee, ornaments etc... to free up some Racing Program funds, maybe even a full fledged Racing Program

Thanks again...

Nick

With all the Harley riders out there, imagine the . . . power . . . of that group if Harley could get them on board with a Buell Racing program.

Imagine if Harley printed up a few million Buell Racing shirts and worked with dealers to place the shirts prominently at check-out counters and talk it up a little bit. They could ear-mark all profits from the shirts toward the racing program.

Not only would that directly raise money for the program, but it would make Harley owners feel involved and maybe they'd get into it a little. They could show the shirts off to their friends, take a little pride, start going to the races etc.

Next year, for the first time in nearly 40 years (not counting the VR1000), an American motorcycle won't only be eligible for the premier AMA roadracing class (with the 1125R just announced tonight as eligible for 600 Superbike), but with a couple good riders, it could very well be the bike to beat.

I think, with some creative marketing on Harley's part, they could be a key to re-invigorating American roadracing.
