In 2005 Vaclav "Vincent" Haskovec was having the best year of his career until he was brought down by a crash that ended his career. For the next year or so there was a lot of support, but that has been tapering off as people move on to the next "in" cause. You can help just by dropping him a line and saying hello. He is far from home, having immigrated to the US to follow his dream of being a pro roadracer in the AMA. We as motorcyclists and as race fans should not be so quick to forget those that have fallen in the pursuit of the sport we all love. Vincents fight is near and dear to my heart because of my accident and how I had to fight my way back. There were people that I thought were friends that disappeared when I got hurt and I know how important support of friends and family, even my adopted family of riders, is when you are working day by day to get yourself back to some semblance of normality. You can email Vincent and let him know you remember him and care at: getwellvincent@gmail.com or vincent@czecher.com I posted a similar thread on the quick board, but I realized that it belonged here, where race fans would see it. My bike carries a number 3 in honor of Vincent, and I think about what happened to him every time I even look at my bike. Lets make a little noise and let him know that he is remembered and loved. If you feel moved to help further, the red flag fund for fallen racers and the airfence fund at roadracingworld.com are worthy places to make it known. For those just getting into racing and those who may have lost track of who Vincent is, He tells his own story much better than I can: http://www.czecher.com/html/biography.html His story also serves to underline the need for more airfence to be deployed at motorcycle races of all levels. His career should not have ended this way and wouldn't have if there would have been a section of airfence between him and the Armaco instead of just old car tires. Irregardless Vincent defines courage and character. |
