Been getting the bug to try learning some new things, sharpen my skills and feel competetive (Eventually). Anyone here in NJ have some friend or practice/race? I don't think there is any decent track in NJ, closest is Poconos? Looking to hook up with a few folks and learn the ropes too.

First off.. Pocono isn't that 'decent' a track.. Just had to mention that...

Secondly, ThunderBolt Raceway is currently under construction in NJ. - First stage should consist of 'Thuderbolt Raceway' and 'The Lightning Road Course'.. Originally they had several other configurations set.. hopefully they will bring those back over time. Thuderbolt will be in Millville NJ.

BeveRun out by Pittsburgh is a good track.

Hmmmm.. There's supposed to be another track opening up on the Eastern side of PA but I forget what it's called. (then again if Rausch Creek ever gets it's road course built.. well..)

Then of course there are the tracks at Summit Point. After that, it's even farther south to VIR or North to New Hampshire.

Check out TeamProMotion.com good schools and good folks to ride with (I do as do several Buell racers) They cover everything from basic track riding to a CCS race license school. And they don't cost that much (compared to some others)
Wouldn't do me any harm if you use me as a reference if you sign up

OK.. Aside from that not sure where you are, but if you're close to Liberty Buell (h-d) stop in and see Ant'ony (Mutation Racer) and he'll be able to help guide you to some racing stuff. Once again, tell him I sent ya and that you are a BadWebber!

Hope that helps.

Another option to get a taste, if it is still available is to sign up for the Inside Pass day at Pocono on Sept 27. It is only $100 for the day managed by PTT (Private Track Time) and you get a chance to test ride other Buells.

You would have to go to the Buell web site for owners and try registering there as a novice. They may still have some slots open. Worth a check.

Ok. Are regular leathers (w/sliders) and separate jacket with protection ok? Do I need certified one-piece gear?

I have a belly-pan on order but I would not be racing my bike till next month. If InsidePass lets you ride other Buells, that may be an option. I'll look into it, thanks.

Blublak - I've met a few folks at Liberty, I'll have a chat with Antony next time I'm up there. Thanks.

The requirement for novice riders are minimal. One piece is not required. Bellypan is not required. As you move up to intermediate more is required. You do have to have nearly new tires.

Novice/Beginner = 0 -3 track days

Heavy leather jacket - no nylon
Back protector highly recommended
Chaps, leather or Cordura pants
Reinforced synthetic riding suit acceptable
Full-face coverage helmet
Over-ankle Riding boots
Full-fingered gloves

Bike

Newer tires with min 80% tread
No loose parts or leaks
Mirrors, glass, lights must be taped or removed
Chain should have slack, ck owners manual
Bike will be inspected at track by PTT

Rider meeting is at 8:30am

When you register you can download all the documents

Booked huh, I am a bit surprised as I was thinking I would be the only one in the Novice group. Groups are supposed to be in the 20ish size. Well, I am sorry you did not get in. Sounds like it would be a good price to get a little experience.

TeamPromotion.com does have some methods of trying the track out. They give you a couple low cost trials that give you a taste. I may join them if the bug bites.

Yeah? Well I will email them and see if there are other opportunities locally. I'de really like to hone in on some skills, especially cornering. Would be nice if I could practice "at home" on some large parking lot, 2nd gear circling and get used to some knee sliding. NY have any tracks?

The TPM Try the Track deal is this..

They have a coach lead you out during the lunch break and run you around for a few laps. I think each lap they increase speed a little, but since they don't require full gear for that ride, they also don't 'let you go' lest you get into trouble.

If you do join up with them.. It'll be nice NOT being the only Buell out there (most of the time).
