Anyone out there running an X1 down the 1/4 mile too? It's a street bike with some basic bolt ons. I'm looking to run an air shifter with my Banke controls and could use help on that (is it better to run a reverse shift pattern? I was thinking of doing that anyhow), Wheelie bars & strut so I can get a good launch without wearing the bike, thinking of going to a two step if I get serious into it. But right now, I already have the bars and already want the air shifter. What would you experienced X1 racers suggest to get started? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hey Aaron,

Depends on how far you want to go with it and if the bike is still streetable or not. Dollar for dollar, the wheelie bar will give you the best bang for the buck, although personally I'm kind of pro extended swingarm. You essentially want to set the bike up so you can reach WOT in first gear as soon as possible. A strut is also a nice option to lower the bike and and get it to launch better. Mine is from a stock car race supply store and is actually a stock car a-arm rod with a heim on either end. If your running handlebars, there is a limit to how far down you can drop the front forks, but i would go as low as you can. You can run clip ons above the top triple on an X1 and drop the forks as low as you want to. I run about 75psi in the front tire and about 25psi in the rear (medium compound road race slick). . I run an upside down shift pattern as well. For chassis/driveline mods, i set mine up more like a roadracer and cocentrated on reducing friction and weight. I push my rear brake pads all the way in, run a non-o-ring 520 chain, and run synthetic 5W ATF fluid in the primary. I don't run a bar but do have a 7" over swingarm. I try and tune my launches by changing rear gearing, and actually have the bike geared higher than stock and am running through the traps at the top of fourth. If the bike is wheeling hard or spinning, I gear it taller until it is manageable (your only going to launch as hard as your wheelie limit or spin limit.....reduce tractive force by gearing higher). The other nice side benefit is you can stretch 1st gear out longer and don't have to make the 1-2 shift so early.....definitely a benefit when manually shifting the bike. you also eliminate an upshift over the run and an opportunity to screw up when bracket racing.

good luck with the bike!

Yo Fiery,

Have the X1 almost re-painted and freshened up (rings/valvejob) and we have collected almost all the pieces for Leah's bike. Engine is together....just need to get the swingarm and we can start bolting it back together! The x1 will be ready for the 10th, but the new bike may not be yet. its thrash time!
