A good showing so far for the British contingent at Daytona this year 
Chaz Davies finished 8th in the fiercely competitive Supersport Race, and has qualified 6th for the main AMA FX 200 miler on his R6 Supersport bike
James Ellison has qualified 14th for the Superbike race whilst Tristan Palmer qualified 22nd in superbikes and finished an excellent 9th in Superstock

Chaz is a world class rider, and 4th place in the 200 on a privately run and entered R6 (in pretty much Supersport spec) is a stunning result. If he hadn't been baulked by traffic on the last couple of laps he could have been on the podium
I hope the world's top teams see sense soon and get him back into GP racing where he belongs. In fact, the way McWilliams is beating himself up already this season I can see Chaz getting a call from Ilmor very soon

According to the guy from Celtic racing, Mcwilliams is the one who told them about Chaz in first place(at last year's 200 no less) |

Their careers do seem to be intertwined quite closely don't they.
A few years ago they were the only two Brits in the GP paddock, so got to know each other pretty well.
Jezza recommended Chaz for the Celtic Racing ride, then Chaz was scheduled for a test ride with Ilmor but got cancelled because of McWilliams' accident. If Jezza's injuries don't heal by the next GP I would expect Davies to get a chance on the Ilmor, although of course we all hope that Jeremy makes a good recovery.
Jeremy's qualifying crash at Qatar looked sickening, and the first thing he did was try out his damaged leg to make sure it wasn't broken again. He could hardly walk before the crash so must have been pretty damned sore afterwards! |

That wasn't a SuperSport Spec bike. They announced on TV when talking about him that he was indeed riding Eric Bostrom's last year's Formula Extreme bike. The bike is as qualified as the rider. |

Hmmm, that isn't what the Celtic boys were saying earlier at the tyre tests, but they may have bought it since of course.

Then again Trojan Honda last year was using 1 year old bikes. Nothing Impressive about it... they are a year old so what. The tech into those factory bikes won't hinder them in one year. |

Chaz has been in 250GP's for years, since he was 15 in fact. During that time the only other Brit rider to hang around longer than 1 season was J.McWillliams, who also happens to be a very good ex 250 rider and the last Brit to win a 250 GP. As a lot of the riders tend to hang with riders of the same nationality in the paddock, and even travel together to European rounds, they got to know each other pretty well in those years. Jeremy has been a mentor & champion of Chaz's for a long time, and been singing his praises to all who would listen. Although it seems to have fallen on deaf ears with the manufacturers/sponsors. If Chaz was Italian he would be on a proper works GP bike, no doubt about it. he could have stayed in GP's riding privateer 250's and fighting for 10th place every weekend, but he is a better rider than that. |

Matt,
He was really impressive. Hodgson didn't come out of the gate here that fast. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him this year. I have a feeling he's going to be on the box more then once. |

the dude can ride-was pretty cool watching him sift through traffic. I think the pit stop hurt him though-came at the wrong time... |

It appeared to me that Chaz could have easily been third, as when he was really chasing Barney that several back-marker riders were intentionally letting Barney through and blocking Chaz. Now, whether it was intentional or not, the results were the same. The corner workers were giving the blue flag to these guys when Chaz was loosing valuable seconds and they never got off of the racing line in the West horseshoe...allowing Barney to get away. Chaz was definitely faster than Barney at that point in the race as he closed up to him quickly, but was the subject of some home cooking...welcome to America, Chaz. |
