Tangumans,

I would like to talk to you about the engine packages. We don't have the long history of some others in Buell performance, but I know our shop can handle anything you want to build and more.

We've developed several performance packages for other aircooled twins and are currently building a 90" XB package as well. The XB12SS we are installing it in will be with the demo bikes during our event in July.

You can email me at jcox@cycleconnectionh-d.com to discuss it further if you are interested, or call me at the store. Our number is 417-623-1054; just ask for Josh.

Josh, you recommend longstroke setup for racing?

No. Not for racing. The torque down low makes the bikes harder to ride, but with lightened flywheels should be doable. Most classes here will restrict the XB's to 1250cc in competition. It only makes sense to use a lightened 9 crankshaft and bore it out to 1250.

Wes Brown, owner and chief mad scientist and performance wizard at Cycle Rama, has been in the business for 30+ years. Numerous championships won. Bonneville records shattered. New unforeseen levels of performance attained. No better than Court's good buddy's shop? Please. In 2002 the owner of the shop that Court seeks once again to promote here was relying upon Wes Brown and his crew at Cycle Rama for his engine go-fast parts, including headwork, cams, pistons, exhaust and darn near everything else.

Now we can do no better than the shop owned by Court's good buddy? : ?

The founder of that shop, Brian Nallin, no longer even works there. He abondoned the place and is now busy making progress at Revolution Performance.

Slaughter's comment re his headwork is an objective appraisal.

But that's just my opinion.

Regardless, I agree with those who suggest that we support the folks who support us, folks like Cycle-Connection, Cycle Rama, Rev-Perf, Johnson Engine Technology, Hal's Performance, Hillbilly Motors, Trojan, and all the great sponsors here.

Keep the bikes stock untill you can achieve consistent lap times, then work on suspension set-up to cut seconds off your times, then increase power to cut tenths of seconds. Don't put the cart before the horse.

Justin_case, that's good wise advice. However, I'm American, and male, and very young, and also very horny. The same applies to my wife, except for the male part, so she's of the same mind. So you see...your advice sucks.

Lots o' folks on the Xlforum.net rave about Nallin's 1250 Stage 3 kit, and I think I'm really leaning toward it. Where, exactly, O gentlemen of the board, does Mr. Nallin himself actually work with his own hands? NRHS? Revolution? Everybody seems to have a different answer. I like that NRHS is in Denver, and I'm moving to Denver, but I'm not so young and stupid to put convenience before quality. }}

Until you can ride the bike well (not saying you can't...) the power may indeed slow you down...

Maybe try a full set of ohlins suspenders first? $10 says that'll go a lot farther in the first months of track time than more power...

1250 will make you inelegible for many classes. Better check with the race organization that you'll be racing in.

1200 is the common top limit for many clubs for middleweight twins having air cooling and 2 valves. Rules vary though so check it out.

You really ought to get clarification on the BBS for the racing group in your area: WERA, CCS, ASRA - all cover the VA region.

With a big motor, you might be taking yourself out of a couple classes which would otherwise be available to you.

Regarding suspension & handling v. HP - I recommend you go for lower laptimes FIRST, noise SECOND. Consistent handling is good for the track, brute HP for the coffee shop. Ultimately ALL the other racers see your lap times - no bluffing on the track.

If you don't ride well, you can't ride fast.

EVERY one of the sponsors listed is easily approachable by phone.

One advantage that Hal's might have is they have a HUGE amount of experience in suspension setup, tire choices, brakes - all the important stuff that the usual 'Murican Male doesn't slow down long enough to think about.

Took me 3 months to get faster times riding a bike that came back from a re-build with 30 more horsepower. Besides, more power only starts reducing engine life.

ALSO -

Start hanging out at the race tracks at which you intend to be racing. SEE which classes you want to run - the size of the fields, etc.

Twins classes generally aren't as crowded or as bloody as the 600 and 1000 classes

Out here at Willow Springs, those classes are referred to as the Axe Murderer classes or for Novice, simply the bloodbaths.

Nallin works at Revolution...
and last month got me badly needed race parts (& questions answered) very quickly, with Badweb discount, before race weekend!

Though why the finished bike didnt get to the racetrack is another story!

Thanx! We've already decided money ain't no object when it comes to beatin' dem other guys on da track! Yay! I love buying stuff that makes Duc riders jealous. Schweet.

For the record, Duc (and Japanese too) riders can buy several aftermarket slipper clutches for $800-$1000 a pop. I have never met a Duc rider that was jealous of anything Buell...but there could be one out thar' somewhere. I own both and I am not jealous of myself, so there you have it.

"gold snot"...priceless!}
