Looking for a used xb12r dedicated track bike or race bike. Thought I would post here in Racing since some of you guys might be replacing your bike for next year.

Tony,

Is that 9R a prepped racebike?

Streetbike?

Hi Neb,
Don't discount using one of the other models if you can't find a suitable R model. Skully races his 9S with a lot of success, and we have built our racer using the Ulysses as a base. Fitting fairings etc is easy to pretty much any donor bike.

What do the racers on this board do with their "retired" bikes? Are they for sale? I am also interested in buying a Buell race/track bike.

Thanks,

Drake

If you are talking track/race only, you can do really well buying a beater from a street rider and then tear it down and do a complete overhaul.

Don't think you're going to have a lot of luck finding a race-prepped Buell XB type (older tubers are more available but once you've ridden an XB on the track, you'll never go back)

As bitter as Skyguy was, that is the kinda thing you'd be looking for. A bike with some miles on it and a pi**ed off owner looking to sell.

Check all the racing BBS's - especially CCS/ASRA where they just finished their season.

Thought so - CCS Check :

Go to their search in classifieds. Some race-prepped Buells are for sale there (didn't check dates though)

Slaughter,

Thanks for the info. I am also just looking for a used or even salvaged XB12R that I could "strip down" to a track only bike, like you said. I'll remain patient and see what I can find this winter. Lots of time till next season.

"What do the racers on this board do with their "retired" bikes?"

There is usually a dumpster out back that everyone throws their old bike in.

Seriously, your local race organization will usually have a classified listing on it's web page. Loudon Road Racing Series has a huge listing, and that is a single track, new england race organizer. CCS may have a bigger listing, but everyone may not be so local.

If you have a good want ad, you could probably pick up a XB for in the $4000 range. You might also be able to have someone check the local auctions if you have a connection at a dealership.

Racers riding Buell XBs may not be so eager to sell their bikes. Buell pays contingency money for 03 and up, so that covers all the XBs. Racers on other bikes usually have to trade up every two or three years if they want to collect.

Looking for a race bike???
In Wera a belly pan will be needed and then safety wired. Other than that, take off all lights and turn signals and your street bike is ready for the track
