Just back from Mid Ohio.
Rain, rain go away..........
FX got their 20 minute practice in and following the FX practice 600 Supersport had their 30 minute qualifying time slot. About 5-6 minutes into qualifying it started to pour rain, 4 or 5 riders went down in turn 1, with one of the Attack Kawi riders (Buckmaster, I believe) broke his wrist. Race red flagged for the day. Modified schedule for Sunday.

Prior commitments had me come home tonight.

There was quite a noticeable sound difference between McW's new muffler and Crevier's "old style" muffler.

I took some pictures, I'll get them reduced and posted in the next day or so.

Ebear, it was nice meeting you. If you get a chance, post some of your pictures on here. Yes, that was me waving at you on the demo ride. I got to ride "Valerie". A sweet Cherry Bomb Firebolt that the VIN ended with 00001!

While waiting for the track to dry I hung out at the Buell Demo truck and talked awhile to Floyd Goshorn (IIRC). He is in P&A acquisition/developement. While not divulging any secrets, he promised some new/cool things are in the works. We tried to get him to "spill the beans", but he wouldn't. He just said that the future is VERY bright. About the only thing we could get him to comment on was that a lot of the stuff that is now developed by HD for Buell, will be brought back "into" Buell in the next year or so.

P.S. XB9, sorry I didn't get your PM until I got home, that's why I posted I was leaving at 11:30 on Friday (no computer access while I was at the track).

It appears that yet another AMA Superbike weekend is about to degenerate into a farce because of the inability of the organisers/tracks to run in wet weather.

If the circuit is dangerous in the wet then don't use it in the first place. A boycott of dangerous circuits is the only thing that will drag safety levels up to the standard enjoyed in the rest of the motorcycling world it seems. The fact that Mladin and Spies both said they wouldn't race in the rain at Mid Ohio even before the weekend began should have been a warning surely?

If MotoGP, WSB, BSB and every other major championship can run events in the rain then the AMA really needs to bring itself up to date in order to be taken seriously.

As an aside, look who is two places above Jezza in FX, riding a Supersport spec Yamaha R6......young Chaz Davies again, striking a blow for Wales : )

McWilliams out on lap one with a mechanical failure apparently : (

Strange timings shown with both Bostrom & DiSalvo first of all shown in 26/27 place then suddenly 2nd & 3rd ?

Crevier currently 15th after 4 laps....Chaz Davies 7th : )

Chaz finsihed a very creditable 8th in his first 600cc race ever.

Jeremy must be kicking himself and wondering what he has to do to get a result on the Buell! At least his Air Miles collection is healthy if nothing else ;)

I spoke with Steve as he was walking back from the back straight and he said "I broke the motor"

Word I heard on Jeramie was an oil leak : (
One of the sensors "the plastic was cracked"

Saturday night we took the 999 bike up to a friends shop and used their dyno till about 1:30am... Jamie did the mapping for the exhaust and "some other changes". It was really cool to hear that thing on the dyno, they said they are getting 9 grand out of it now. They had a new data aquisition system on it.

The faster they spin this engine, the more it sounds like a duck-a very angry duck.

What was wrong with the number one 999 at the start? Jeremy apparently had two mechanical problems...one with the bike he did the sighting laps on and then the backup. This guy must feel like he has a black cloud over his head. Starting from the back really sucked...

The 999 sounded much faster after the muffler change, and it had the track announcers guessing that something had broken. In actuality, Jeremy told me that it had to do with clearance during cornering. Apparently, he is leaning the thing over more than anybody else ever has, because he was dragging the side fairings, so they put a much smaller muffler on it so they could get more clearance to move the belly pan and fairings up. Is that correct?

Better days are ahead for this bike, but I suspect that with that lump of an engine, getting it to transition well enough to compete with the top bikes may be a problem. If Jeremy can't do it, who can? Watching him ride is a thing of beauty though...he is sooo smooth. I have to wonder what he would have done in the
fx race if he had been on the Celtic bike that Chaz rode.

Xb9, thanks for passing along the info.

Man, what a bummer. Looks like they must have found some real extra power with that Saturday night dyno work on 999 because Jeremy picked up about 2 seconds/lap from Saturday to Sunday. The 6th place start was the best yet; what a bitch to be taken out immediately by a failed sensor (if that's what it turns out to be).

Well, I guess we can start looking forward to next year. Any word if Jeremy will be riding again?

Saturday morning the Warr's team was working on swapping out the cans. As has been noted, the sound level was noticeable increased. The outlet must have been too long seeing as they took a SawZall to it and whacked it off. Having completed the swap, the crew spent a considerable amount of time trying to get the bike to start. It got to the point where McWilliams was suited up for practice and they still couldn't get it to fire up. You could see the frustration as evidenced by the exaggerated gesticulation and frowns. Luckily, the rains came and the pressure was off. Toona remarked that Floyd Goshorn said cool things are in the works - funny, that's the impression McWilliams gave. He said they had done some work with the fuel injection, lightening the bike and that bigger and better things are in the works. In any case, in Sunday's practice you could see the difference in performance on the straightaway between McWilliams and Crevier's respective XBRR's. As far as the actual Formula Extreme race is concerned, I saw no one working on Warr's bikes after they dropped out. I asked and was told they didn't know. I didn't see McWilliams for the rest of the day. The whole team looked pretty bummed out, understandably so.

On the Saturday night Dyno work, I don't know what the before number was but the after number was impressive. I can tell you the sound of that Burnes Muffler is just awsome! He did look very good and was very fast in the FX practice Sunday.

Jezza gave me a couple of his posters autographed and there's a message to the badwebbers on them. He said he get's on here once in a while and really enjoy's it. I'll take pictures of the posters and post them up ASAP.

Blake - pm me your mailing address and I'll send them to you.
