Official announcement of rules is only a couple weeks old. Original announcement was made at Daytona but it sounded really iffy back then. March 9, 2006 -- With the eyes of the motorcycle racing world affixed on Daytona International Speedway for the famed "Bike Week," a new professional motorcycle road racing series - sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) of Pickerington, Ohio and organized by Professional Motorsports Productions of Toronto, Ontario, Canada - was announced today at the "World Center of Racing." MotoST = Moto Sport Twins. Twins class racing, endurance series - up to 8 hour races. 3 HP classes with dyno-measured ranges and Sunoco spec fuel. Similar to FUSA with dyno used for post-race. Nice thing is that the HP restrictions keep it real. For the 3 classes something like 60-75, 75-90 and 90-115 (haven't had coffee just yet so my memory isn't working too good - but that's about right) It's as if it's WRITTEN for Buells. Lights is probably SV650, Sporty, XB9 - bikes like that, Medium is bone stock XB12, Heavy is like Mille, "breathed-on" XB, de-tuned XBRR. Starts at Daytona in March. The schedule is not yet set. They are only committed at 3 tracks AMA started it - but it's a separate series. It has a board of directors that have been on AMA or are on AMA board. We're hoping that they hit all the same AMA venues (either Saturday same weekend or the weekend before or after AMA) so that there's better exposure. IF the races hit all the same venues as AMA, I can prolly hook my trailer behind the GPR stabilizer van (Scott Jensen's sponsor) Rules are tentative but they're not likely to change much. Information is at the official website: http://www.moto-st.com/ It's changing daily now. I'm excited since I built up my bike for F-USA and it's not a real fire-breather and I was wondering what to do with my spare rolling chassis (thinking a Blast-XB but now really think a Twin so I can have a "B" bike) I need to read the rules about stock bore and displacement since I'm running an XB9 punched out to 1169. For those of you who haven't done endurance racing before, it really isn't a one rider team either. You will usually have 2-3 riders. There actually are several pitstops/tire changes during races and such. Like Slaughter said, the rules are changing all the time as of right now. Hopefully the get them set soon as the first race is (at least was last time I checked) supposed to be in October! |

We're thinking that we'll try for the season opener in March at Daytona if we can get the team together. 8 hours means 3 riders, nearly a full bike's worth of spares and some serious re-thinking of how the front wheel is attached!!! 20 min tire changes are not any fun! 200 miles you can make on one front tire but that's just barely over 2 hours. |
