JB2 - I love the decals, thank you very much. Yesterday I had a good looking bike, this morning I put on the decals, now I have a racer.

FMJ - I installed the 6 -speed, filled the transmission to the specified amount, put it all back togeather, and then ran it kind of hard. It could have been gear oil, but didn't smell like it. It actually looks like it is leaking from a welded edge of the oil tank, I am still looking into this.

I am using an Autometer A/F guage that has been calibrated to read from .78 to .98 volts. I am told this is a more narrow range the typical guages. It seems to be an aid in tuning, but it is also a distraction - a bit like a little disco on my dash.

Other than covering the rear tire in oil, and come on - it only did it once, the S2 is great. With the high gearing, quiet exhaust and cams, and easy power it is like being on a cloud.

Roc,

Sweet looking S2! Haven't talked to you in months. I haven't had the luxury of getting on the net in the last 5 months. Hope everything went well with the S2. Sure wish I could of snagged that puppy. I'm supposed to head back to work in L.A. tomorrow morning, so no need to respond to this puppy. Just wanted to say Hi and I'll see you at the flats.

Cheers,

Roc wrote: Do you know what your fuel pressure is? When I had a fuel pressure guage installed this would seem to change a bit, I have no idea why, between rides. A few pounds of pressure variance will make my bike either: die from lack of fuel with a quick run of high boost, or flood.

Roc,

I don't have my Aerocharger manual with me, but I thought 4lbs. of FUEL pressure was specifically called out with the Mikuni. I just put a new fuel pressure regulator on my bike about 7 months ago and that's what I "recall" the manual saying.

BTW, I'd give TJ a ring here in AZ. He's one of the best in the country with Aerochargers. I know he's won the Daytona HP shootout several times with a Aerocharger.

Eastside performance (480)649-4440

(Pete) to my knowledge the older Aerochargers wouldn't even work with the stock CV carb. The kit I purchased years ago, required the Mikuni, but the newer models (with a newer plenium design) worked with the stock CV. I can't give you the specifics of why, rather only what I've been told.

Roc,

Found my manual for a model 101-200 Aerocharger for a stock 1340 Evo, with the Dyna 2000, Crane pushrods, Turbo Cam, Zippers Hi-flow oil pump).

Fuel System (quoted from my book):

The 42mm Mikuni turbo carburetor is calibrated specifically for the Aerocharger. Adjusted properly, it will provide instant, burble-free throttle response, while delivering excellent touring fuel economy. We have operated our Aerocharger bikes from sea level to 6000 ft. At 6000 ft. altitude, the bike are just a bit happier with 35 pilot juet (32.5 is standard-no misprint) and 165 main jets (172.5 is standard). High altitude riders should try richer jetting first.

Carbretors deliver the correct amount of fuel to the engine by sensing what is referred to as "pressure differential" between tht float bowl and the venturi area inside the throat of the carb. The turbo carb has its float bowl vents pressureized by boost pressure. Durning operation on boost, the pressure in the high velocity venturi area is slightly lower that the float bowl area, and fuel is forced up the needle jet into the venturi.

Because the float bowl area is pressurized, standard gravity feeding the gasoline into the carb will not work. The turbo carb has a smaller 1.5mm neddle and seat, and is kept full by a unique boost sensing fuel system.

An EFI style high pressure constant flow fuel pump is utilized, which is regulated to about 30psi by a brass "bypass-valve" which continually
returns excess fule to the tank (via the vent lines connecting the two tank halves). A red domed boost sensing final fuel regulator delivers fuel pressure to the carb at "precisely 3.5 PSI higher that boost pressure. For example, at 10psi of boost, we need 19.5 of fuel pressure to ensure smooth fuel delivery.

Roc and Jim,
I haven't fitted a fuel pressure gauge to mine yet. For the CV it says it needs 1.5-2psi of pressure above boost, so I just set the static pressure (no boost) at 2psi. I've got a list of gauges I'm about to buy when I go to the States. I'm just waiting for a reply for the type of sensor I want for the cylinder head temp gauge.
I modified the plenum to suit the CV (including drilling the hole Roc ).

Jim - I hope you are going to Bonneville this year. The Aerocharger manual I have, the one for Buells 1200cc HD's, asks that fuel pressure be set to 1.5 - 2 PSI above boost.

Peter - I would love to hear what you find for a cylinder head temperature guage. I tried to use the rear head sensor, that comes on the T-storm heads for the EFI bikes, but that didn't ever really work.

Roc,
I'm looking at the 4468 from Autometer, using two 5248 probes. I'm just trying to get clarification from egauges (much cheaper) that it will work on two heads.

Being the chaotic type I, naturally aspirated, am, I forgot all about checking about the visum and stuff.

Luckily a visa waiver can be filled in during the flight. Pffewwwww...
Seems I'll have about 10 hours for that, and Pete's knowledge of the "English" language to be of assistance. ;)

I gotta tell Ya; I'm LOOKING FORWARD to seeing some of You guys again, as well as meeting some new faces to go along with the posting-names.
Be that in Berthoud or on the flats.

Not too thrilled about the flight, though...

America, here we come!

The English remark was kind of cynical, You know. Seen as Pete's Australian.
He likes to be approached that way. ;)

So the four of us arrived at Denver Airport Yesterday evening. Or was it the next morning for us?

Pete, Sean, Koen and myself had been travelling for about 15 hours or so from Amsterdam. Rocket joined us there 'bout eight 'o clock; flew in from England being busy calling his mom and stuff...

Had a bit of a delay at Philly getting on the other plane, because of Pete bringing the WP steering damper. Must have thought it was a weapon of some sorts.
Believe me, You should have been there; Pete reprimanding Sean on the "Highly Dangerous Motherf*cker" T-shirt, and him having to strip out of his perfectly-buttoned shirt because of the damper!
Should have taken a picture, yet We didn't because of them bringing the dogs out as soon as Koen took the camera out.

So we had a bit of a laugh yesterdayevening after arrival at the ranch, -which added up about eight AM in our time the next mornin'- and tried to get some sleep if it wasn't for Rocket playin' his music and ringin' up family and stuff again #%^&&%$@!
Not to mention wakin' me after about an hours' sleep with his helmet on and camera present... W*nker!

Things look promising this year for the team; We've inspected the bike last night and all seems AOK.
Imagine firing up the engine late at night against the hillsides of the rockies; let me tell Ya, there's some wild camshafts in there! M2 seems to be runnin' just fine, which is just as well seen as the number of people interested in firing it along the salt.

Picked up a couple of groceries this morning before fetching Henrik. Don Casto is already here, and We'll see who turns up during the day.
Paul serves as gourmet-chef as well as a guy to pick on Rocket, so they seem to get along just fine, lovin' eachother and stuff...

I'll keep You posted on further development on the front,

Jilles.

I just hope "with his helmet on" isn't code for something about which I'd rather not speculate.

Nah Blake, with 'helmet on' would be 'Cavalier' (as opposed to 'roundhead') and that 'helmet' is for women only

In M/PG-1000/4, what is the /4? I see /2 as well.
Geez, you sportster list guys need a hobby. I see as the records go by, the engines get bigger each time. 3000cc too? Yikes! Actually the one who needs to get a hobby is that Scott Guthrie Racing group! Does he have enough records yet?

Guthrie is known as Mr. LSR at Bonny & at Maxton, N.C. where ECTA sanctions LSR national records.

The /4 means 4 stroke, compared to /2 meaning a two stroke engine.

Great runnings for all at Bonneville Salt Flats.
Upright and fast, sweet and clean.

Sad news. . . just in from Land Speed Louise:

Land Speed Racing Veteran and World Record holder Nolan White, 71, passed
away peacefully in his sleep early in the morning of Sunday, October 20th at
the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. His wife and
family were with him.

Nolan, who earned the HOT ROD Magazine Trophy by recording a top speed of
434 m.p.h. and setting a new AA BFS (blown fuel streamliner) record of 413
m.p.h., had been a participant of the SCTA World Finals held Oct 16 - 20th
where his Spirit of Autopower, National Parts Peddler #131 streamliner was
attempting to set a new F.I.A. world record.

Sadly, on the last FIA record attempt, despite the car running flawlessly
over the nine-mile track, it lost all three parachutes as the car ran
through the traps at 422 m.p.h., veered off course and rolled several times
before coming to a stop.

The community of land speed racers are saddened to have lost one of their
own who for 45 years has been a strong competitor, innovator and hero of
many. Nolan White, together with his son, Rick and grandson Jason, were a
familiar family racing team at the salt for many years.

The family has asked for a few days of privacy and has requested that
concerned parties be patient as services are being planned in San Diego.
Thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Please . . ., no phone calls.

Sad Speedy Regards,

"LandSpeed" Louise Ann Noeth

Bob,
I imagine all discussions concerning the LSR bike are now verboten, especially any one concerning setup, etc. after the "incidents" this year.
Bummer, sure, but we instead should thank Aaron for sharing so much of his setup and prep over the last several years. He got many people, myself included, interested and excited about Land Speed Racing, and prompted a fair number to take up the challenge and build their own bikes. Now circumstances dictate that Aaron not be so forthcoming with info, and we should all respect that.
