I had one of those bellypans (picked it up off ATC board after posting in the "wanted" section); It came with all the bracketry attached, but wasn't going to work with my exhaust (IDS Supertrapp) w/o seriously hacking it up. I guess it's really meant to work only with the race kit. I sold it to a sales rep at Buell Glendale; I had no idea they were that hard to get.

Blake, how about the 4th? Think OHR will be open? Never heard of Martin Creek. Perhaps TX parks and rec has them on their site. Only reason I was thinking of Sabine is because I know they rent canoes. No 130 hp concrete ones though. Have you done any track work yet? Perhaps you can get some in that weekend when you're not too busy polishing my bike! You did say you wanted to be my pit crew, right? hehe BTW, pit crew gets paid in stouts!

Belly pans: I just did a dogpile search for +bellypan +buell and came up with this one:
GP Composites

No longer made. GP composites makes "hot bodies" parts. They don't make anything for Buell. The excuse is, no one will donate a bike for them to use as a pattern. No one cares about us Buellers!

Got an e-mail reply from one a Badweb member on the belly pans. Haven't made the call yet but will do so immediately. Here's his reply to me:
Hello Bob,
Yes I raced my X1 last year in CCS Midwest. Just to warn you, the X1 is a kickass streetbike, but is a little out of it's element at the racetrack in race guise. I bought my bellypan from Buell's race director/manager Henry Duga. Call him at 262-642-2020. He will sell bellypans to licensed racers.
I loved racing my X1 it was a blast, but little things kept popping up. I was modereratly successful with a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and two 5th's in Supertwins and Lght Wght GP. I was even a little better than half pack with the midwght supersport guys. I'm taking this year to gather funding for 2003 where I will be racing a XB9R, if everything goes right! This bike looks better suited for fulltime track use. Plus it should dominate lght wght classes. I wish you the best of luck. Hope to see you around!
Thanks,
Marty Hunt

CMRA race weekend: June 15 & 16
Got to do some corner work, a lot actually. I was given some instruction and paired up with some experienced workers. Got stuck working the 8 hour endurance race on Saturday in the blazing Texas sun. They saw that yellow shirt coming a mile away when they assigned me to work. Much like how I dress for riding, I wore long sleeves and pants, I'm not a fan skin cancer. Was exciting for the first couple of hours but became monotonous from then on. No casualties, just a couple of breakdowns. (Thought in the back of my mind: if I put some oil on the track, things will liven up a bit. Pretty evil, huh?) Got rained on pretty hard Saturday night thru Sunday morning but the races continued on. It dried out quite quickly, but all that moisture turned into steam throughout the day. I stuck around long enough to ride a pocketbike. Now I want one of those! I had no idea they can wheelie! Next time, hopefully I'll be the one on the track. Still awaiting word on the belly pan. Guess I'll call again right now.

Ok, made the call, Henry is out but I talked to Tom Hanglim (sp?). The pan is some kind of thick plastic and costs about $175 with the mounting kit, but had no price on a X1 fairing. Said he'll send them to my dealer of choice. Then they charge me. Apparaently all race parts have to go thru the dealers, plastic pieces too.

Blake, any word on a day at the track?
I got a call from Henry Duga. Said he'll get the number plate and belly pan in the mail. The bill come "whow knows when" but he guarantees it will come. I have my rearsets and bars ordered thru ASB, hopefully they'll be here this week.
Henry says there's all kinds of stuff available thru him, from dual discs to plastic, but no engine mod stuff. I also had to ask about the X1 Race ECM, he says it and the stock injectors are good up to 88", so they haven't had a need to make more maps. He did recommend Penske shocks for when the time comes.

Hello again,
Finally did it, I bought my new XB9R. Plan is to race it in CCS Midwest next year "2003". I love this bike! I've got 650 some miles and the thing rocks.
I'm going to put racetech front fork springs and a penske shock in it when available. Also a race kit when available. Other than that it is just a matter of removing parts.
Plan is to do some track days to get to use to the bike and hit er hard next year.
Talk to you later,
Marty H

Marty, do you still have your X1 or any race specific parts left? What year was the bike? If you still have it I might be interested in buying some stuff from you. Where do you reside anyway? Your profile needs some beefing up man!
Thanks for pointing me to Henry Duga. I still don't have the parts I asked for but I will be keeping in touch with him as funds allow. Suspension will be next on the list of mods most likely. What a weak front fork the X1 has. I'll take any recommendations and advice you have as well.

Marty, BTW, in the middleweight SS class, what other bikes were you running against. I'm still trying to determine what class I should go into. Mid weight SS or Heavy Weight Sportsman.

Hello Bob,
I sold the X1. I have some various pieces left.
two tank masks
home built air cleaner assembly with 3" K&N oval filter.
fly screen
dinged race header and gutted out V&H exhaust to fit.
I'll go through my stuff and see if there is any more stuff I can part with.
If you're in CCS which according to your last post you are, than there are a few classes I would reccomend. Your most competitive class is going to be Lightweight GP. You're out there dukeing it out with 250cc GP bikes. Just remember you've got torque. Square off in front of them and they're downshifting out of their powerband!!! I also raced supertwins. With typically smaller grids it is easier to place well. Middleweight Supersport is a handful for a new racer. Those guys are cut throat, on bikes faster, lighter, and better handling than yours. They are usaully younger and don't have enough experience crashing to know much that hurts/hurt$.
Oh about that front fork, go to racetech.com and get reccomended oil and fork rates. You won't be blowing out fork seals or on the ragged edge diving into corners.
Other than that have fun and feel free to ask more questions. I'll try and answer them as quickly as I can, but times get busy.

Blake, I'm starting to get worried that my bike won't be ready. It's all stripped down, my Xroads bars and LSL rearsets came in (need to install them yet) but the bike is in the shop because of the fork problem I have. Plus, I just called Henry Duga to find out if he actually shipped out my pan and number plate, once again he's on the road, so I don't know if I'll have those in time either. I'll need to paint the flyscreen yellow also. I forgot about a rear number plate cowling too. Then I need to do my 2.5k service before I hit the track. I've got a drilled tranny plug, I'll install at that point. I still have NO safety wire stuff either. So, honestly, time doesn't look to be on my side. I'll call the stealership to see if they've even looked at it. But in general, things don't look good. Otherwise, I'd love to hit the track on the 4th. I'll find out more soon enough.

Well, for the 4th you can get away with not having a fully prepped bike.

For race day... Just buy some of the stainless steel wire that they sell at most automotive parts stores. It's the same exact stuff as safety wire. I just use vice grips to twist it up. It works fine. All you'll need to safety wire is the oil filter (via hose clamp), the tranny drain plug, and your oil filler bung (run wire over it to keep it from popping out).

Aside from the belly pan and plates, the trickiest race prep is probably routing the catch cans (crankcase adn tranny) and the breathers back into the intake. :( At least I think that is what the rules require. :(

For the 4th, most things wouldn't be a problem. THE problem is, I don't have a bike at the moment. The stealer hasn't looked at it yet. But I guarantee one of my damper cartridges is blown. It's the only explanation for riding a pogo stick. And when they do open it up, they won't have a replacement to put in. If at all possible I can get the bike back before Wednesday, then I can put my stuff on and go. Breathers aren't a problemo for me, I still have the stock setup routed to the airbox. But I'll be worn out if I'm up all night putting on and adjusting rearsets, bars, grips and throttle cables and an oil change. It's a 4 hour ride up there for me. I'll let you know but like I said, it looks grim. Either way, I will be up there for the races, one or 2 days I don't know. Perhaps another day of track work is in order.

I'm staying optomistic. I'm gonna call your dealer and tell them to get the lead out dammit!

They are begging for corner workers on the CMRA mBoard. I volunteered to work one day. Haven't decided which yet.

Hey, if your belly pan comes in, can I get you to cart it up here with you so I can take a look at it? :D

Service is closed on Monday. Doubtful I'll get the bike back. Still no word on the belly pan and fly screen either. So, I signed up for track duty. I'm on for Sunday. Call 830-557-6301 and sign up. Shelters are provided by them. BYO hat, sunglasses, sun screen and cooler full of non-alcoholic drinks! Oh, and don't wear anything yellow or red.

That said, I guess I'll camp at the track so I won't have to rush around too much in the morning. Gotta be at the corner work canopy by 7 am. Yawn!!!
I wonder if they'd let me ride the FXDX on the track...it doesn't leak, I promise.

X1G,

Hey man, I already signed up to corner work Sunday too. My buddy Keith and I are working a corner together.

Here's and idea, call Lone Star HD/Buell in Tyler. Some drunk chick ran her truck into their showroom one evening about a month ago. Some of the Buells were casualties. You might be able to pick up a new front end. Orin the owner used to race CMRA. He's still a race fan and very pro Buell.

Turns out that in addition to being closed to practice the day before the race, the track owner will have a crew there on Thursday getting everything mowed and trimmed into shape for the race. So Keith, my buddy, and I will be running around the track on Wednesday.

I'm anxious to try out my new race rubber. :)

You'll be able to ride your hog on the spectator laps. But don't give up. Get that X1 ready for track duty. Raise bloody hell with your dealer. They tend to work on the squeeky wheels first. :)

Blake, hope you enjoyed the new rubbers at OHR. Gimme a call Friday or Saturday on my cell 281-543-7800. I'm camping at Tyler state park with a lady friend and we plan on doing some riding and wandering around aimlessly. Still don't have the Buell back so the Hog will have to do. But I do have the belly pan as of today. I'll bring it up to show you. Then I'll camp Saturday night at the track. Enjoy the 4th everyone!

X1G,

I will give you a call. Best local riding is the road (along the north side of Lake O'The Pines. The holiday weekend traffic would be frustrating on a Buell, but cruising lazily on the hog it would be a very nice ride. The twisty road takes you over 4 or 5 bridges with views of the lake.

I assume that with GF and camping you are trailering/hauling the hog. If you ARE two heeling it from big H, wow!, and PLEASE don't burden yourself with bringing the belly pan.

As to my day at the track yesterday...

With fresh Metzler DOT race rubber mounted, I quickly dropped my OHR lap time from my previous best of 1:43 down to 1:37. Then I crashed. I'm fine, bike is okay. Details at eleven. :)

First, I tried to call Henry Duga at Buell about the belly pan, but he was at Laguna Seca. However, the guy I talked to gave me Erik's number and said he would love to talk to me about racing my bike! I am not sure if I will call, but I have to say that is waaaay cool.

Second, there is an M2 racebike for sale on e-bay in Washington. Anyone know anything about it? It may make more sense for me to buy that than start spending money prepping my own. Here is the link:
