Quote:3) The USFRA conducting planning based on what TEAM ELVES does???? They expect us to be a significant portion of the total participation.
I spoke to a gentleman at the USFRA on Friday about resistering for the 130 club by July 15 (he said "just send it in as quickly as you can." Whew! Would hate to miss this opportunity) and mentioned that I'll be attending with Team Elves. What did he say? "Holy Shit! Your pit will be a mile long!" Obviously he has been getting constant feedback on the massive quantity of hooligans invading the salt.
Quote:TEAM ELVES has EARNED a reputation as the most organized team.
He did mention that very thing out of the blue. Obviously the core Elves are doing something right. |

For the record, as of today, TEAM ELVES will be represented by 6 countries around the world. And it's too early to spew the details, but there WILL be an "International Night" that will feature cuisine and dancing Europeans. Look....if a person HAS to go to Wendover a person HAS to have a reason! Court |

Here's what the race motor looked like this morning ... Those rods are works of art. Guggenheim Shmugenheim, I've got the "Art of the Connecting Rod" Here's what it looks like now ... Lots of work left to do, but it's a start. |

Aaron, I just put some Supremes in the S1, but those Carillos just look so much sweeter.... I guess whoever setup the bottom end, really doesn't want the nuts coming loose, huh? Thinking of you slaving away while I'm sitting on the beach here in Greece. PPiA |

For some reason, the Supremes in this special 7.113 inch length are 4140 forgings, all the other Supremes are 4340. This motor had those in it, but I really wanted 4340, hence the change. The Carillo's cost about twice what the Supremes cost. The flywheel assembly was put together by the world famous Chuck at Cycle-Rama. Yeah, it's all welded, don't want it twisting at 170 ft/lbs of torque. They also cryo'ed it. You're on the beach in Greece? While I go out to the shop all day and get sweaty and greasy? I hate you. |

Aaron those rods ARE sculptural art-i'd like to have one hanging above my fireplace, come home from working outside all day in the winter, take off my boots, light a fire,+sit staring at one of those rods. Hey,ya got any pistons with valves sticking through em or anything like that?I'll buy em(really i hope you don't but i'm gonna go check a Harley drag bike site that auctions off destroyed stuff like that) |

Man, I got lots of destroyed pistons in my collection. Connecting rods, too. Hell, I've got a whole Chevy crankshaft in 2 pieces. I keep those things as momentos of good times past. And as reminders that it's cheaper to buy the good stuff up front, not decide you need it after a failure. Not that the good stuff doesn't break sometimes, too, but generally not as often. |

Jrh: I've got a piston for ya: It's got a valve jammed into its top, just as pretty as you please. That happened about ten minutes before the rest of the loose stuff took out the turbo as we were getting the nets up off the bottom while fishing for sea scallops off Hudson Canyon (NY). (Risking more engine damage to save $10k worth of fishing gear. Got everything up to the outriggers [55 ft., 6" gusseted sch. 80 pipe] before she quit, but had to finish the job w/ a come-along. 10 hours, an inch at a time.) I had always intended to clean it up for the mantle myself, but that was 10+ years ago. Time to face reality. It ain't gonna happen. I'll see if I can find it & send you a pic. It came out of a 343 Cat, so it's pretty good sized. I'd love to find it a home with someone who appreciates that kind of "art". Capt. Pete |

Capt. Pete, the story alone makes it a mantle piece. Cool keepsake! |

Jb2: That's just the beginning of that story. This all happened on a Thursday night, and since we were 18 hours from the dock, I told my fishing partner there was no sense in him breaking his trip right then to tow me back and then wait until Monday for the rest of the world to go back to work. We were fine on anchor w/ a 20kw genset running, AC blasting, 110vac pumps available, all dc circuits charging, etc. Then, in the middle of the night on Friday, I was awakened in mid-air as I was being thrown from my bunk to the deck. My partner had fallen asleep at the wheel while dragging his nets, and rammed me, bow-to-bow at right angles. He just reached over and pulled her into reverse at full power and amazingly, backed off with no damage to either vessel. Two 75 footers, mine wooden & his fiberglass, both with 50+ outriggers, in 8 to 10 foot seas. Had we ever gotten tangled up, you know who the winner would have been. Everybody up for swim call! Man, talk about kicking a man when he's down. It's not like he didn't have the whole damned Atlantic Ocean to work in. But we're still best friends today and often chuckle about that trip. And then there was that trans-oceanic cable I caught up there that wouldn't let go of my nets once we had managed to get them to the outriggers. But that's another story. (Your call to Amsterdamn back then got disconnected? Sorry about that.) Ah, jeeze, Blake. Please don't bust me. I, ahh, ahh, oh yeah; this is how I get my Buell engine money. Or better yet: see ya in Bonneville? Capt. Pete |

Jrh: Sold my mantle 6 months ago & relocating to the Western Pacific. It's just a piston. It'll end up in a very large pile of junk that will get hauled to the dump very soon. If I'd saved a memento from every unusual episode during 30 years of this business, well... I'd have to pitch a tent in the yard for space to sleep. I only kept it for its "artistic" value. I'll post the picture if I can find it & you can reconsider if you wish. 'Course, it didn't come out of a Buell/HD, but if it had, I'm sure Aaron would be buggin' me for the jugs. "maybe i'll soon have one of my own "special"parts or two" Don't even think it! Good Luck! Capt. Pete |

This Accomodations link works better than the one Court gave. Btw. the Team Elves site is back up after a disaster crash that killed my computer during a (long overdue) update session. My computer (home) is still dead, but most of the site is back up. Please report any errors and/or "missing" links to me. Thanks Henrik |

Well done Pammy some people will need your stable and quite influence to keep them on the straight and narrow for the duration of the event. Beingg in the same Motel will make it a lot easier for you to keep your eye on them types. See you in the Bar. Paul |

I have been accused of being many things...demure is NOT one of them. Paul...you are the bad influence. I witnessed a simple, quiet, softspoken, Jewish boy, turned into a slam-dancing, lounge lizard, under your tutoring. I can't wait to see you in September. |

Fireman Jim: As soon as ANY of the TEAM ELVES RACERS get pics, bios or any of the stuff we have been begging for together, send them to Henril or I and we shall properly embellish them and get a "The Racers of Team Elves" page going.... This year, I assure from looking at the massive spreadsheet is going to be nothing short of incredible. There is tremendsou planning and preparation happening on so darn many fronts.....I've used about 3 hours of office time today working on details, details and details....Pit Area is going to CAD next. Watch for a dandy "International Night" dinner this year that will give folks new to the United States a chance to exhibit the ill effects that alcohol induces on dancing Aussies....in addition, be ready (and this may require SOME preparation) for the "All Rocket Fashion Revue". From the folks who brought you Buell owners cruising at 130MPH down the famed Bonneville Salt Flats on a street driven Buell M-2 WITH A LUGGAGE RACK .. . . . AND Foreigners in Leather... TEAM ELVES setting foreign policy back 40 years in the name of FUN! |
