EFI augmentation... like a Power Commander or any of the other lesser known modules like those from Teclusion et al. Ron, Check out some of the BadWeB Dyno Charts. I like my CM580 cams. They start to fall off at top end but their short overlap maintains outstanding low end and the higer lift still get you great midrange. If you want optimum peak HP go for a set of Red Shift 585's, if you want to keep your kicking low end torque try a set of CM580's (available through Nallin Racing). Screaming Eagle 536's are also a popular and very economical cam set that deliver a wide power band. All three have helped make over 100 RWHP in performance oriented top ends. Best bet might be to give your head shop a call, see what they recommend, since spring pressure could be an issue. |

Hey Folks, The AHDRA drags coming to Woodburn/Portland on Sept. 7-8,2002.. Killer time and alot of very fast Buells.. Hey Ron, The set-up on my Buell is Nallin Stage 2 headwork, SE 536 cam, Crane Hi4, Force pipe and Super B carb.. For the street I would only change carb and pipe. Been running this set-up wide open for 2 years and not 1 glitch. I would recommend that you get your flow numbers and give Brian Nallin a call and he will be happy to crunch the numbers to see if your cam matches the flow of your heads. My best time in the 1/4 mile has been 10.71 and 6.81 in the 1/8 mile, with wheelie bars and gearing... If you are geared for touring you will probably need to concentrate more on smooth launches and consistant times... Good Luck and have some fun!!! |

Joe, First time I'd seen 1320 on the screen & wasn't sure if you had seen these from Budd's Creek: http://www.dcbrag.org/races4a.htm Think I've got your boy on the track in there. Steve(2) |

Hey Steve, Thanks for stopping by and introducing yourself at Budds Creek.. I keep a link to your photos.. My son really got a kick out of seeing himself on the web!!! Will you be at Delmar or the Rock? As a suggestion you might want to get in touch with Lisa Hegler at the AHDRA and explain what you do... Might be worth a free press-pass. Thanks again and keep up the fine work!!! Joe Perry |

Been watching the board, and have seen some good 1/4 mile times. I have been racing the 1/4 mile on a basically stock 2000 m2.(air cleaner and supertrap)The best time I have turned is 12.85.I am experimenting with a 30 tooth compensating sprocket from bandit machine. The mph with the sprocket was up to 107 mph, but now I am waiting for 2nd gears. the stock gears are impossible to launch with in 1st, and 2nd all you do is burn the clutch.I am also 6ft3 and 250 lbs so that is a disadvantage. I raced for the first time last weekend, I only did 3 runs but my best was 12.91 @ 101mph. I can't open it in 1st gear all it wants to do is lift the front wheel, 2nd gear lifts about a foot (so I think)but I can go WOT. I am also hitting about 240lbs. Anyone got any ideas on how to launch better without a wheelie bar? Bill |

Lean all the way over the bars and take it a little easier. I'm 160 and have no problem keeping the wheel down on launch. If you lean 240 back you'll stand it up, lean forward and you should have plenty of downforce. Rev to 3000, at the light, slip the clutch (don't dump it) then gas it and lean forward. The front wheel will rise a little if you gas a bunch but in general it'll stay down. Go out on the street and practice *not* wheelie-ing it off the lights. Practice a hard launch with no lift. Went drag racing for the first time ever Friday night. I thought it would be easy. D'OH!!! 1st run. overshoot staging area, back up, boots sticking to tarmac (DAMN! That is some real sticky crap they put down!) Feathering clutch, watching lights, blow it. Red light, (RT=0.00s), wheelie, nail 2nd, wheelie, space out and forget about GP shifting, slam into rev limiter, fiddle with shifter, finally get 3rd, let off before finish line, forget to flip face shield down. ET 13.3s 2nd run. Struggle to get staged, finally get staged, hold revs at 3-4K rpm... red light, (RT-0.278s), wheelie badly, nail second, wheelie, smack rev limiter, ... ET 13.0s 3rd run. Staged like a pro. NO red light! (RT=.9s ). Wheelie (almost loop), Wheelie, miss 2nd to 3rd shift, 12.5s ET. 4th run. No red light. Wheelie, Wheelie, smack rev limiter, wheelie, 12.5 ET. 5th run. No red light. Staged well. Wheelie, nail 2nd, no wheelie, DANG! miss 3rd to 4th shift. 12.3 ET, 113 mph. I SUCK AT DRAG RACING!!! My buddy on his F3 racebike kicked my ass. It was his first drag racing experience too but he got there two hours ahead of me and had a bunch of practice runs. His best ET was an 11.93. I've ridden his bike. It's got more top end and is lighter. I consistently beat him to the 1/8th then lost out bungling the shifts. Woulda beat him outright on the the 5th run if I hadn't missed the dang shift! Gotta call Mr. Banke and ask him for a true GP shifter. Flipping the arm on the standard setup isn't quite cutting it. The throw ends up being too long. Will switch back to conventional shifting for now. Will definitely try drag racing again sometime. It's only $15 at Hallsville Speedway on Friday nights. Every Friday evening. Run till 4AM if you are so inclined. Aaron, can I borrow your long swingarm? |

Blake that sounds like alot of fun (and funny). I gave Frank his bike back, so I am without a "drag bike" till I finish mine. I tried to race Richard with Frank's bike. Left in 2nd, carrying the front wheel, feeding in more clutch.. more gas.. throttle wide open ...Just about looped it. 130 Hp. and stock gearing don't place nice together. Good thing Frank has insurance. Maybe I can get Richard to go and give us both lessons. |

Blake, it's not bone stock-just some small bolt ons. Force racewinder and pipe (blue) race ignition, thunderslide, oil cooler, aluminum oil tank,Mobil 1 in the engine, redline in the transmision and Michelin Pilot Sports. Back in 91 or 92 i was running a Suzuki DR650s that had some minor mods that had run the best of 13.3. |

Yo 1320 Joe, Sorry for no reply -- was in Alaska, on another 'puter, when I typed in that message and then was off the air for some time. Vaction time for this year is all gone. I'll have to check into that press-pass deal when y'all come to town next year. You know, I did send that link to ahdra.com and was surprised to get a note back from Craig Tharpe saying to keep an eye on thier site for some Buell related announcements, but never did see anything. Oh yeah, he also typed in "Buell is cuell". take care, Steve(2) |

Aaron, yes that is the setup (XR2) that i am using.I did some mods to the spacer ring and on the inlet itself after reading post about the restricted airflow. I am also thinking about the cv 44 carb and intake.I have new pics of the bike but not enough time to resize them so that they may be posted. |

Justin, A friend just attached a wrist strap from a boat or jet ski to a self tapping screw directly screwed into the engine run switch on the handlebar. You fall off and the strap pulls the switch to the off position. Cheap and effective. SteveH |

Just a purely hypothetical question here: What is the geometry of a full-on balls-to-the-wall drag bike like compared to a more roadable bike geometry? I understand the stretch to lay out the weight and try to avoid the dreaded time-costing wheelie. I understand the low-down slam to get the weight low and avoid that over-the-top weight transfer. And I gleened a little info from recent events to have some inkling of wind pressure vs ground effects. But what about the steering geometry? And what about the less-than curvacious drag slick on the rear, especially if it's a wrinklewall style? I guess ultimately I'm wondering what could be done with a full-on dragbike frame away from the dragstrip? For instance, could one be SaltFlatted or would the steering go bonkers if kept at a high rate of speed for longer than a few seconds or under potentially rougher track conditions? Again, just curious at this point, just dredging the Knowledge Vault for a few nuggets to think on. Thanks. |

Yep, like that, except that one looks like it goes 3,000mph and is built like a Freightliner, and I don't have a boom crane like that either. Maybe I'll just play with barstools instead. Actually there is a drag bike stuffed into a corner at a dealer near me with a tarp mostly covering it. Just playing with potential ideas at this point. |

Mike You might want to check out stripbike.com On the left side of the page is "Puppet's chassis design",he talks a little bit about lay-down style chassis for the dragstrip. In the "bulletin board" section there's a discussion forum that's interesting,i suppose you could ask questions there. Also,if you haven't already been there, there's dragbike.com that shows all the sanctioning bodies, bike photos, etc. At my area dragstrip,an AHDRA top fueller went 221 mph last summer.(95" wheelbase,14 inch wide tire)If you haven't seen the nitro-methane V-Twins before, you gotta get to an AHDRA race,it will leave you speechless(hearingless too) |

Thanks FireMan Jim I believe we have met. Iam the S2 with the modified rearend. I emailed Brian and left a message. I thought he might be able to fix me up with a new set of heads or new cam or pistons. Would like to stay below the 2000.00 range. But the budget just seems to go out the window every year. |

Is that with or without wheelie bars? Hot Street is without wheelie bars right? That is awesome numbers from John. I have a set of wheelie bars coming to run in the AMRA Buell class. We will see soon what she runs. I am going to try and make Bowling Green, KY. Later, Steve Queen |

Steve, hope to be at Bowling Green myself. I made it to Pacific Junction Iowa last weekend for the AMRA. First time I have had a chance to run my XB12R on the track. It was an 1/8 mile track. What a blast trying to keep the front end down. I think I was the informal entertainment. I was pretty much sticking around the 7.60s at 94mph all weekend. Still had a great time. Was running in the Buell and SE class. I had one run with a really bad light .830 and ran a 7.621. The dial in for the SE was 7.30 for the 1/8 mile. So I hope to be fairly competitive in the 1/4 if I can control the front end. I'll probably see ya at Bowling Green. |

Here's my newly built X1'ish drag bike. It is really just a pile of parts that became a bike. It only has 6 runs on it so far, but it goes in the 10's @ 127 so there is a lot of potential there. 100" 4"x4" It's ugly, but that's the way I like it! Jeff: Pretty is as pretty does!
