Yeah, well, I heard his head is DOT approved, no additional helmet required in all 50 states. (just kidding, Joe!) Damn, it appears Photopoint won't let me link to anything bigger than 640x480. We'll get some 1024x768's up on the team site. They look good, and you can read all the names. AW |

The 1350cc P/PP was taken by a Guzzi this last year. While a feel a properly tuned sportster might be able to get in the low 150's, a Buell would be better suited for the job. Has this target been consifered by any one here yet? |

Team Elves does not at this time have a confirmed plan to contest it, no. Not to say I don't expect a Buell or two to give it a shot, though. |

The Sportster List Team got some ink recently, too!!! Well deserved. Here's the color version of that photo in the magazine ... this looks spectacular blown up to an 8x10, it's amazing what the salt can do in terms of making colors look bright. Taken with my little Fuji 6800 Zoom, in 3.3Mpixel mode. L to R: Dale Amsden (builder and crew chief), Tim Horton (pilot), yours truly (crew). |

LSR 1350 P/PP record I understand the 1350 P/PP record at Maxton was raised to 165-166 mph by a Guzzi. The existing record at Bonneville is 151+ by a Guzzi. I know the "Elves" have been thinking about this class. Heads Up Jim Snyder LSR# 504 |

From Aaron's post on the GDB...
Quote:LSR news ... we have 3 confirmed racers: Paul Elliot (Madduck) - preparing an S2 Jim Higgins (Fireman Jim) - preparing an S2 Myself - preparing a Blast and a to-be-announced effort There are a couple more "possibles" but these are the absolutely positively for sure spending money and doing the work now deal. We could use a few more. Rocky? Those boosted class records have your name on them! Team Elves will pay some of the operating expenses for anyone who seriously wants to build a bike (Buell only) and join us in September in pursuit of records. The team will pay entry fees, and that ain't chump change.

Hmmmmm, that M-PF class looks awful tempting for someone, and all those S2's gettin' prepped for a run. Dang 2002 schedule, maybe next year. Maybe I'll tweak and streak the M2. Hmmmmmm, , hmmmmmm. MikeJ (Wondering what the current odds are on Powerball.) ===== ps, Pilot, From Salt Lake City (aka: SLC), go west on I-80 (I = interstate highway) for a few hours (unless you're walking, then it will take longer, but Court seems to have you covered, unless you want to walk it, then allow a few days or so), and just before you get to Wendover you go north a little bit. |

I'm going to get a rule book but my current thoughts are: M-PBF, as is no fairing MPS-PBF, as is A-PBG, small S1 tank and no fairing A-PBF, small S1 tank and no fairing APS-PBG, small S1 tank and S2 fairing APS-PBF, small S1 tank and S2 fairing I think I'll use pump gas and octane booster for the F classes. What octane is the Fuel they have you use for the G classes? Now I'm going to be running the international gearing on a stock S2 with the Aerocharger. Aerocharger will have innercoolers for the bike in June, and I will probably do that. I may go to T-storm heads too but not right now. Firemanjim went 133 on an S2 that made 72RWHP at sea level, using that as a base I am thinking about 160 = 127RWHP with the fairing. Realistic? Comments? |

They have a variety of fuels available, I believe any of the ERC gasolines sold on-site are legal in the "G" classes. ERC110 meets about 95% of the needs from what I can tell. Take a look here. For the "F" classes, you don't actually have to change the fuel. They don't care. The only real difference is you have to have a sealed tank (by the ERC guy) to claim a qualifying run or record in the "G" classes, and there's no such requirement in the "F" classes. If 72hp supports 133 on a given bike, 160 would take 125.4hp on that same bike. I'm sure glad you're joining us |

WAY too many classes. Try to narrow it down to just a few of your better prospects. Maybe talk to the other entrants to see what they are interested in running and try to divide the classes amongst you. |

130 & 150 club rules just for a refresher. Break 140mph and you're out of the 130 club attempt, break 160 and your out of the 150 club attempt. I remember the posting about Brian having to get licensed for the record attempts, something about various levels he had to ride at without breaking a maximum barrier? Probably in the archives. Just some stuff to keep in the back of the mind. MikeJ (wondering where to acquire a 160+mph speedo, maybe...) |

Well, just due to procedures, you can generally only set a maximum of one record per day, which means 4 records at a given event (what happened to us in '00 was the exception, because of threatening weather they changed procedures and just let us run). That's the right idea, though, figure out all the classes you could configure the bike for, then prioritize based on factors such as the importance of the class, softness of the records, expected improvements you'll be making as you get the bike more dialed in, likliehood of the record standing longer, hassle factor in moving from one configuration to the other, etc. Brian didn't have to do anything special for licensing, he was riding in the truck with me. Richard, though, had to make a pass over 125 but under 150, collect his "D" license, then make a pass between 150 and 175, and collect his "C" license. He did all that in '00. License passes can be qualifying or record passes, too. They just want to make sure you don't make too big of a jump in speed all at once, the license system forces you to maintain a little bit of a controlled ascension rate. Hmm, wonder if he ever collected his "B" license after he went over 175 this last year. I don't think he did! We did those 180+ passes back to back on the last day. Running over 175 also qualifies you to run the long course, 3 timed miles instead of 1. |

If the Elves want to pay my fees then I will race for whatever they want me to. My preference is MPS-PBF and then M-PBF, basically because I don't need to do anything to change the bike. Other than that all records are open, so at any speed two runs would net a record - right? If no one else runs why not go for as many as possible? 4 records per day, is that for the team, for the rider, or for the bike? Could it be as easy as changing the gas tank and giving the keys to another team member? |

"4 records per day, is that for the team, for the rider, or for the bike?" No, one record maximum per day, for a 4 day event, equals 4 records maximum for the duration of the event. That's because once you "qualify" (i.e. make a pass over the existing record), you put your bike in impound. It's out of commission for the day. Once a day they take all the impounded bikes to the start line for back up runs. They either do it in the afternoon or the next morning. The last day, they do it in the afternoon. Of course Team Elves will pay your entry fees! There are some minimal requirements, like we want you to list "Team Elves" as the entry name and we'll want you to place certain decals on your bike and list certain companies on your "sponsors" list. And of course it has to be a bonafide record attempt, with a Buell, at WOS, not someone just looking to get on the salt at the team's expense. You certainly meet that description. We're not telling people what class or classes to go after, that's completely your choice. It's okay to have overlap, it improves the chances of a Buell-owned record, and that's what this is all about, putting "Buell" next to as many of the records as possible. |

Roc, Thank you. I was getting annoyed that those turbo records would go begging because it's out of my reach to ship my bike there this year. Good luck. If I can help from here in anyway, let me know. I will still be trying to get there again without my bike. PPiA |

Peter - Thank you for your offer to help, but be warned; I may take you up on it. Aaron - when they impound the bike does it need to have the turbo on it? Could two bikes share a turbo? |
