New to me 09 Uly, AFAIK all stock, 17K miles. Oil light coming on when it's hot, at low speeds, idle. Fresh oil/filter installed. Installed new oil pressure switch, same. Disconnect wire at pressure switch, light goes out. Get bike moving for a bit, light flickers then goes (stays) out til next idle low speed event. ECMspy test: fan works, but I'm not hearing it while riding low speed, idling. By design on the 09? With the android ECMspy, can I change fan run settings in ECM? Or is that not possible with a stock ECM/android spy?. Want to see if fan running when hot solves my hot/low speed oil pressure issues. Will add a fan on override switch if I have to or as a see if it "fixes it" but would prefer a more "automatic" solution. Have not gone in and checked rear cylinder temp sender/wires yet. thnx for all advice, opinions.

The fan will not run at a stop unless the engine is really toasty.

It should start as you accelerate past 15 mph, and stop as you slow to less than that.

The fan has little to nothing to do with oil pressure.

You need to connect a mechanical gauge at the sender location to see what sort of pressure you're getting.

Totally agree. Find out what your pressure actually is just in case it's the pump that's bad.

Removed the oil pump cover and looked around all "looks" good, pump rotors smooth, no wear, relief plunger working smoothly etc. Next up removing a couple oil lines and test flow. So far I'm stumped.

oil pump inside

Sorry it's a bit blurry. please excuse the delayed response, I'm not getting notifications. Seems like the "low pressure" is getting worse quickly.

Did you remove the pressure sensor and put a gauge on it? It could just be the sensor. You said you replaced it but these days it seems that even brand new parts can be faulty.

Agree with Tootal and Pushr0d. You need to mechanically check your oil pressure. A perfectly functioning oil pump will not increase the oil pressure on an engine that may have mechanical issues. I hope it is just a faulty sender. Good luck! Keep us updated.

Opened the cover (again) blew through the cooler clear to oil filter flow good, blew air through line out to swing arm, air came back to the cover, removed and checked both gerotors look "as new". Removed, polished, pressure relief valve boroscoped pressure relief valve, seat looks good. Zero evidence of contamination/ wear. Added the temp gauge, backs up what the light says. over all the oil pressure seems low, once warmed up the light starts coming on. I hear the fan running above 15MPH. Aaarg! thanks for helping!
Yootoob of what I see, engine warmed up 50F ambient temp.

recap; I recently bought bike . Light started coming in after I got it home... so changed oil, filter, problem remains. There was an extra elbow on the (loose) pressure switch, PO prolly had also been dealing with issue. 17,000 miles, motor seems strong, no funny noises, no other issues at this time.

I've been thinking...
This is kinda acting like an oil starvation problem. pressure drops when I rev the motor. When blowing air through the cooler lines it "took awhile" to get anything through it, then when it did flow, the oil was very "aerated" creamy with air bubbles. I'm suspecting the cooler is too restrictive with 20-50 and "cool/normal" air temps. Will look into some sort of temporary cooler bypass and/or changing to winter oil and cheap (Fram that you?) oil filter. See if that changes things.

Not wishing bad luck on you - but there are two reasons for low oil pressure.

One is a bad pump or relief valve. The other is a hole or excessive clearance somewhere in the system - piping or bearings.
