The Search function doesn't turn up much in the forum for the last several years. What is the current 'go-to' for replacing the front (in my case) and rear turn signal units? Old age and Florida sun have done their thing with the rubber stalks. SPHD shows only the RF/LR unit, and I think it is actually for the rear - the fronts have/had a longer stalk. The dual use is only a reflection (sorry!) of the mounting of the fixture with the drain hole facing down. So, either LED or incandescent - what're folks using? | ||

Since I have always wanted to upgrade to LEDs, I found these lights that look similar to the ‘10 turn signals and have LED bulbs. They are also brighter than the stock incandescent turn signal lights. I found them on Amazon with good reviews - especially regarding the brightness since I didn’t want the dim LED turn signals sold in many places. $50 for a set of 4. I had to cut off the stock connectors and soldier them on these lights. I also changed out the flasher with EP36 electronic LED flasher from Autozone. Overall, I am very pleased. Hint. The LEDs are so cheap you should buy 6. Wire the correct connectors on all of them. When you break one, you will have a matching spare in the Buell box. | ||

Thanks for the link! It's been a couple of years since that FB post - how are the LED lamps holding up? And, how do you order to get four amber lights - the Amazon selections don't say what color they are. | ||

I de-limped mine with tongue depressors for reinforcement and Gorilla tape. Works well and does not look bad. | ||

UPDATE I have 'bandaged' mine with my old favorite fix-all - Shoo Goo(R). Take a small file and clean the edges of the fracture, apply a good glob of SG, and then wrap it with masking tape. Give it 12 hours or more to cure, then carefully unwrap the tape. The SG seems to stick like Grim Death to everything but the sticky side of masking tape. Works great. So far. SG dries clear-ish. I suppose if you were really anal, you could color the SG before you apply it, either with ink or maybe copier toner.} | ||

I cut and fitted pieces of wood paint sticks to the bottom of the stocks. Then wrapped them with masking tape for strength and rigidity. Then wrapped the length of the stocks and around the light housings with that good rubber stretch 3m electrical tape to make them black and water proof. Holding up well going on 3 years. | ||

UPDATE - The Shoo-Goo repair works, but the stalks break in a different place. I ordered two sets (of four) of these (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DBN9GFN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to replace the original bulb-type signals on my 2008 Buell Ulysses. The front two units' mount stalks had deteriorated, and were breaking in spite of my attempts to repair them. I bought eight, because the rear two are on borrowed time, and I wanted spares for down the road when the new ones fail. They work fine. They have a cute 'flowing' illumination when they activate, then stay solid until they turn off, then the cycle repeats. They are close to the same brightness as the bulbs, and overall, they are roughly a half-inch shorter. They mount readily to the bike, except the original hole needs to be enlarged a good bit to fit the M12x1.75 threaded mounting rod. I recommend a step drill. The bullet terminals fitted to the lamps are smaller than the Buell originals, so you'll need to purchase some crimp-on male bullets. There are two males - make sure they are connected properly - if they are reversed, the lamp will not work. The bad news - the shoddy threads on the mounts and the nuts. Apparently they were cut with a worn-out tool, because the thread (again, M12x1.75) is very 'short', that is, there is not much of an outer diameter. The nuts are the same way. Two of the eight I purchased would not engage the stalks tight enough to thread down. I ended up going with two that fit the best, and I went to the Big Blue Box Store and bought some flange nuts that fit a lot better - although the stalk threads don't contribute much. Lastly, I ended up using a "GZXY 12V CF14 JL-02 3 Pin Adjustable Electronic LED Flasher Relay for Turn Signal Bulbs (1 Pack)" to get the proper flash rate.  | ||

What would be great is if someone 3-D printed the stalks. They separate from the signal housing quite easily, and there's not much to them. There's nothing wrong with the signal housings. I was thinking of modifying a SCUBA hose strain relief, but the I.D. is way too big. | ||

While in Suches I noticed one of my stalks was getting rather limp wristed after riding a gravel/dirt back road. I'll be rereading this post now! | ||

I used duct tape. It is a dark color tape, so it's not too noticeable. I think I trimmed the width, and wrapped 2 or 3 layers. It's held for a couple of years, but I didn't ride much last year. |
