The red check engine light on my '06 Uly comes on occasionally if I ride hard and push it to high RPM. Sometimes it turns on, sometimes not. There's no consistency. The light turns off in about 15-20 seconds or if I stop and restart the engine. The bike runs great, even when the light is on. The previous owner re-mapped the (stock) ECM and installed a Buell race muffler. The exhaust valve actuator operates, but the cable was removed. Battery and ECM cable connections are clean and tight. Any idea what I should check? I tried using the site's Search function, but it never works. |

Probably the O2 sensor. My'06 would do the same, as you say occasionally. I replaced the O2 sensor and the red engine light would still come on... at times. Usually noting to worry about. |

I've seen this on my '06 Uly but only when pushing hard up a long steep grade in the heat with a STIFF head wind. I was around 200 miles out and had never seen the bike do this before. I pulled over, shut the bike off, and restarted. The light was gone, so I babied it home and have never seen it again. Others on the forum mentioned this might happen operating in the conditions I was while working the bike hard. |

The engine light on my 06 comes on randomly, a lot. Ive never had a running issue, and it always turns off if I shut the bike off and restart. I chalk it up to something like the Y'd wires for the turn signals that break at the wire connection. Though I havent been able to trace it back. I also have a random neutral light that will come on when the bike is in gear running down the highway. |

Check the error codes. See electrical manual for this procedure if you do not have Bluetooth dongle. |

My '06 did this as well. Ended up being the exhaust valve actuator. My Buelltooth has paid off in just that one light. It actually fixed itself but a have an updated '08 actuator on hand just in case. (Message edited by lew360 on March 09, 2021) |

I should have mentioned before, I am running the race ECM with O2 delete and BuellTooth Baro sensor. |

Did you figure it out yet? My light started coming on at 75 mph but if I dropped 5 mph it would go out. I just kept riding with no issues but the light. I checked the codes and the O2 sensor was bad. I replaced it and no more light. Sounds like that's your issue but we always like to know what folks find. |

I removed and cleaned the battery cable connections. Also sprayed both ECM connectors with electrical contact cleaner. Will take a test ride this weekend. |

Took a 31-mile ride today. Pushed the bike hard a few times. The check engine light did not turn on. Outside temperature was 51 degrees. I’lm anxious to see if the light turns on in warmer weather. |

I hope you mean the amber light, I believe the red light is low oil pressure. |

Yeah - I was going to ask about that. I just found out you get a (amber) CEL if your charging system fails. 'Low voltage'. Good to know, I guess. |

CELs used to be red. I'm not certain when they changed to amber. Certainly by 2008. |

My 09 XT does this when the O2 sensor is going. |
