I know I've seen these posted here in the past - something about PVC pipe cut to certain dimensions. Rode my Uly to work today (06, with 07 fork internals) and it's more than a little bouncy up front now...does anyone have those tool specs handy that can be posted? Debating whether I tackle it myself, or drop it at the shop I used to work for (which is right next door to where I work now) and just have them do it... | ||

Usually dirty oil will cause a stiff suspension not a bouncy one. You should be able to adjust the rebound on the forks to get rid of it. If you decide to open it up anyway, here's an old video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIe1esOIobQ | ||

The PVC pipe is the trick to cheaply drive down the new oil seal so get it the OD of the seal. The dust seal goes on by hand. When I changed out my triple trees I also changed out the springs to 07's and changed the oil. I made up some tools that look a lot like the ones on ebay. No need for a spring compressor, just leave them in the trees. I made a thread back then. It's been about 25k since I did any fork service...I'm guessing the pogo is low fluid, not dirty. I don't see oil tracks...but it gets rain-ridden quite often, and on the off-chance it's dry...the grease dirt would be covered by road grime and bugs anyway  | ||

You might try cleaning the sliders - they might be sticking. Take as much weight as you can off the front, and wipe the sliders with carb cleaner. I usually give them a spritz of dry film lubricant after cleaning, and wipe off most of it. | ||

You don't need any PVC pipe, the operation can be made with regular tools. I have done this to my Uly now 3 times. I did post how i did it (with photos) and what tools i used. Maybe topic is somewhere in knowledge vault? | ||

How did you drive in the oil seal without PVC or a seal driver without damaging it? | ||

I used old seal and some piece of wood. | ||

When you have old seal in your hands, cut it and remove spring inside it. Then you can slide it and use installing new one.  | ||

I guess so, but a $2 piece of PVC seems a bit easier to drive it in square. Whatever get the job done! |
