I had to purchase a used ecu because the one in the bike wouldn't connect to ecmspy (or anything else). bike is bone stock, including stock exhaust. the new ecm works, but i'm having trouble with how the bike is running and i'd like to burn a completely stock map to eliminate that question. where can I find one? does someone have one they can post? my understanding is that i 'just' need the eeprom file. thanks! |

I have to ask: did you calibrate the TPS? Was the engine at operating temperature? |

And there is this thread about ECM cold solder join repair: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/726411.html?1334338510 |

Thanks Teeps. I hear ya ... yes, several TPS calibrations exactly per the guide in the ecmspy app at full temp (after a ride). The TPS voltage bounces around a little in ecmspy, like +- .1 volts I'll have to get a temp to post. I have 2 ecms to swap out, and they both act the same. one has had the connections re-soldered ... so I think they're ok. |

Years ago my 06 was running fine but not great. I played in ECMSPY and made it better but not perfect. There were those that downloaded an 07 eprom and said it was much better. Well I tried that but couldn't get it to work. My ignorance I'm sure. Ended up I just took the numbers from all the maps of the 07 eprom and put them in my 06 maps. Since then the bike is near perfect. |

quick dumb question - when i look at the fuel maps in ecmspy, the rear numbers are smaller than the front numbers... Rear - Fuel - bottom left cell is 70 Front - Fuel - bottom left cell is 75 i thought the numbers represented pulse width, so i was thinking that the as the numbers go up, so does richness, but that doesn't appear to be what the numbers show. what is the correct way to interpret which way the numbers go for richer? (for instance) |

the rear numbers are smaller than the front numbers... This is something I just learned myself. I converted a carbureted Harley to Fuel Injection using a Thundermax ecm. It uses dual wide band O2 sensors and in the program it shows AF ratios on the front cylinder but on the rear cylinder they use numbers representing how much less fuel the rear is using. I never knew this but since the rear cylinder runs hotter it needs less fuel to maintain the same AFR as the front. Also just the forward motion will send more fuel to the rear as some of the injector spray will go rearward just from motion like when you throw something out of the window of a car while moving. No wonder it runs better with more mpg than before. I imagine some would say that sending more fuel to the rear is good to help cool it and that makes sense. I guess it's really not needed since all the FI Harleys running around aren't blowing up! |

The info that I have read does hit on which cylinder runs hotter but the 315 , 405 firing order has more to do with it. Front cylinder doesnt have as much time to fill with fuel/air as the rear. To make up for it the front cylinder is richened up over the rear now that fi is commonplace. Believe me , I bet that 42 Mikuni on my 96 flhr did not get that memo! |

Tootal - I found an '07 map and burned it. Still haven't ridden it because in my mind it runs great right now. Thanks for the info! |

Believe me , I bet that 42 Mikuni on my 96 flhr did not get that memo! Another lesson learned. While I had both a stock CV and a Mikuni HS42 on the Harley I also had an AFR meter on the dash. Due to the length of the wiring I set the O2 sensor in the rear exhaust pipe. Now that I know what I know I have figured out that, it was a bad decision to do that. Here I was trying to jet both carbs to the rear cylinder which made the front cylinder run lean therefore I never seemed to get it to run correctly! Once I figured out what the FI was doing it dawned on me how ignorant I was of how these Vtwins work! If I had only put the O2 sensor in the front I may have gotten it to run quite well by jetting to the front! Oh well, it was a learning experience and I try not to ever let a learning experience pass me by! |

Time to check the ground wire connections and terminations. Especially the one on the steering head. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/666026.html#POST2173428 |

I tried doing the same thing and it didn't work. I was told something about changing a date in the profile or something but could never figure it out. That's when I just transferred the numbers one at a time. It took a while but it worked. Maybe Froggy or someone else can explain what needs to be done to get the 07 Eprom to work on the 06. As they say, that's out of my wheelhouse! |
