My seat latch seems to be stuck. I can't turn the key in the seat lock. I did try to spray some WD40 in there and left it overnight but the key still won't turn.

How can I get the seat off?

Press on back side of the seat and turn the key.

The key won't turn. I was able to remove the plastic cover underneath the key/license plate area. I pulled on the cable and got the seat off.

Now I guess I need a new lock.

It is corroded inside. Need to work it loose over time. When you get it loose, grease it inside.

I opened the cover under the tail and was able to pull the cable to get the seat off. It seems it is the lock assembly that is the problem.

I pulled the retainer and removed the lock. Is the lock piece supposed to turn internally or does the whole lock assembly turn to pull the cable to unlock the seat?

Since it's off now soak the whole thing in a little cap of penetrant. If that gets it to work, blow it all out and dry, then use graphite (dry lock lube) so dirt won't stick to the insides again.

Graphite works wonders in exposed key locks like your ignition too. A little goes a very long way, use too much and the key will leave black marks on everything. Its almost as bad as anti-seize!

It turns in-turn-ally ; )

The key lines up the spring loaded pins allowing the center to rotate and pull on the cable. Youtube How a lock works and you'll see what I mean.
