I'm not sure what size was used on Lil Red after it was boogered up. Next oil change I'll have to measure it. I can't remember what kind of epoxy will work on aluminum if any. |

i would think .020" / .040" larger on od with a corresponding larger pitch diameter for the 20 tpi lead. i did not find any measurements on any site and without just buying 2 plugs for measuring, its a mystery. To take it .060", then we would be at 9/16 anyhow.
I couldn't think of a way to turn that into everythings bigger in Texas smartass answer but it was a good question. the several times i've used single oversize plugs, I've never took time to measure one |

If you think of the outer diameter of a threaded fastener as being the thread's major diameter and the bottom of the thread valleys as being the minor diameter, a 'first oversize' cut would be large enough so that the minor diameter of the NEW thread is at least the same as the major diameter of the OLD thread. This way all of the old threading cuts are eliminated and you have full strength and full engagement. Maybe going from 1/2" to 9/16" would do. Second oversize would follow the same pattern, but starting from the first-oversize dimension. |

The only problem this valve can trap metal shavings, sealant particles and another contaminants and as result you will not be able to clean the oil very well draining it because all dirt will be collected above the valve and will go back to the engine with fresh oil. Those particles also can stuck in the valve mechanism and as result the valve will not seal the outlet properly and will leak. |
