Finally discovered a fault (if you can call it that) with my Uly. I noticed quite a bit of wind noise at highway speed. If i lift my ass a couple of inches off the seat and my head a couple inches higher it is quiet. Must be airflow off the screen. I tried taking off the clear screen but it made little difference except did not have to lift so high to get out of the noisy flow. Other than strapping a phone book (showing my age here) to the seat, any solutions? I am already vertically challenged so really cannot increase seat height. I don't think so, just the cost of having some protection from the wind. I have tried the stick on deflector and a Madstadt screen but they just increase turbulence around my head. Can't hurt to ask. |

Several people have installed small deflectors on the outside of the forks below the handlebars and claim this makes a big difference. I believe they’re made by Memphis Shades; not for the Uly but another bike. You should be able find some more info with a search. |

Here’s a thread about them from a few years back: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/689908.html?1345518570 |

I noticed the same on my Uly. Tried a standard and a tall screen, with and without palmer brackets, tested in a range of positions. Every position I tried I could only get out of the wind noise if I lifted out of seat a couple of inches. I'm currently using a zero gravity screen which is quite low but not too bad for noise/buffeting. (I used to have a GS 1150 and had same problem went through various screens and didn't get on with any of them, preferred no screen, that was the worse bike I've had for buffeting.) |

My "winning" solution for the buffeting on the highway is to remove the windshield. Cheapest solution is best solution. |

Thanks natexlh1000. tried that, hardly made any difference. It's not buffeting, just wind noise. I'll try the Mephis shades and report. |

This is about the most personal adjustment a rider can make for riding a Uly. Everybody is different. Height, width, weight, back angle, arm angle. Helmet type, jacket fitment. Risers on the bars might help. I have a cheap full face helmet that the wind will lift and shake the hell out of my head. |

I remember on the XT, I rotated the bars to the rear just an itty bitty bit. |

Was out for a chilly ride on the weekend, got me thinking about installing the bigger windscreen off the XT. Any comments about buffeting, noise, extra coverage appreciated. Especially from those around 5'8" like me. Thanks. |

My Uly had the "tall" windscreen (same as XT) when I bought it. I've always been quite satisfied with it, and have never made any changes. I haven't ridden a Uly with any other setup, so can't offer a comparison. I'm about 5'7". |

Take your height minus your inseam for comparisons. Leg length will have nothing to do with it. Many folks my height have long backs, yet I'm all legs so my height on bike is different than them. |

thanks guys. I tried the Laminar Lip again and found that it keeps a lot of wind off my chest. Also, less wind noise in my helmet up to reasonable highway speeds. Somewhere above about 70 or 80 mph there is slight buffeting which seems a little more irritating than the steady but somewhat louder noise i get without the Lip. overall it seems to be a good solution and was also recommended by a friend who had tried a lot of different windscreens on his Uly. Looks cool too!. |
