It's over 100 here and I'm getting some detonation when accelerating into freeway traffic and occasionally when making a lane change. I'd have an '08 so everything is ECU controlled. I have used Tuner Pro to make idle speed and fan control changes, but don't know which of the many timing maps to adjust. Any hints? |

Built a 76 Datsun King cab Prerunner to play with in Baja Norte,USA. "built", dead stock 280Z engine, 7 to 1 Compression, as to haul ass Up Grades w/Load, Never get tickets that Way, & CHP are Sharks. Up to 3/4 ton one trip, broke a U-joint hitting bump out corner going up to Grapevine from Coast, Grapevine all the way up, going south, 85-95 mph, getting cooler the faster it went, what I build'em for. Never ANY detonation, ever, Still ticking over Quietly, as soon as fired up. The Point= Runs on PEMEX doing All of that, pedal to the metal, never a hiccup Yet, lifelong. Built. In Coming Hot Weather, a way to drop compression a few points, will be very, very, handy, fuell situation & all. Base Gasket/Head Gasket, Whatever it takes to keep it Thumping On, any Fuel Available, home grown, or Not. H-D, Curse it's name, has the past art needed. Myself, building collected choice Subies for E-85, fun Stuff, for Ice Lake Thrills & Glorious Sounds, if I get that flat Six. b. |

Maybe you got some bad fuel? |

With such a long stroke and high compression mine also pings in hot weather. Quality of fuel is huge. We have stations that have both 91 and 93 octane. I always try and get 93. I wish we could get ethanol free fuel but in the corn belt it's nearly impossible. I do find if I down shift and run higher rpm's it's less likely to ping. I know ecmspy will allow me to change the timing so I'm sure something like Tuner Pro would allow it too. |

I think someone here posted that they had good luck putting a couple of 12V computer fans in the oil cooler. |

Wanted to ask , tootal, are you still running the xb9 gearing? Is that enough rpm as well for your 06 to spin up? |

Yes, I love the XB9 gearing as it definitely pulls harder out of the corners and is slightly less likely to ping due to the higher rpm's. |

Tootal, Any plans to use the one wheel trailer with the Uly? |

Nope! I have a set of Helen 2 Wheels bags I use for long trips. I don't notice the UniGo trailer behind the Harley, it has so much torque. I think behind the Uly I would definitely feel it. Here's the "Helen 2 wheels" bags on the Uly. The upper bag is waterproof and has sleeping bags and camping equipment. The lower bag is breathable and had the tent and anything that water won't hurt. The bags have a band that runs along the length which is sewed in several places so any straps going through them will not allow the bags to go sideways. Works like a charm!

I was wondering if you thought it would induce ping towing it. Let me put the train back on the tracks. Mark_weiss, Is it a stock ECM? Have you thought about trying one of IDE's after market tunes? |

I have both a stock ECM and an IDE box. In either case I've got the same issue. The pinging is not extreme and can be worked around, but I'd like to not have to work around about it every ride until fall. |

Mix in some race fuel? Or add a second base gasket. |

I think that adjusting the timing for the rest of the summer is probably easier than pulling the cylinders. I just need to know how it's done. |
