What phone mounting options have you guys gone with? I'm looking at a Ram Mount X-Grip for my Samsung Galaxy S8+, but before I pulled the trigger, I wanted to get some feedback from some of you folks. |

I've had the Ram mount for several years. I like that it offers so many options for positioning. I dislike that it's spring loaded, and the rubber stays are a pain in the butt to put on. Also, with the Samsung S8, you have to mount it WAY off center to avoid the clamps hitting your buttons. It has served me well though. Recently I ordered one from "GUP"? off of an Instagram ad. It doesn't have as much flexibility, but it is way more secure, much quicker to mount and remove, and doesn't interfere with the buttons. I'll try t get you contact info, but I'm not at home now. |

This is the Ciro mount I’m using on my FJR. When I worked at the dealership we sold a lot of the Ram mount phone holder but they. can get bulky and the rubber tabs tend to pop off. We started carrying the Ciro phone holder and it was a cleaner mount and you did need to worry about your phone popping out. They have several mounting options and You can also get this with a charging base.

As mentioned above, the Ram mount does allow for repositioning. You can see in the picture of the Ciro mount that it is where you put it, no changes. I have the Ram short arm on the Uly and normally have it out in the breeze for visibility. Coming back from Lake George last month I was in an unfamiliar area and wanted to keep the map up when It started to rain. I was able to reposition the short arm to tuck the phone behind the windscreen and keep going. Simple thumbscrew, no tools, quick and easy. That’s the biggest advantage that I see. On the downside, yeah, you have to be careful with the x-mount to avoid buttons. |

RAM makes all kinds of mounts and arms, so you can attach anything anywhere. Back in the day I used their Aquaboxs for my phones, they are nice waterproof enclosures with a plastic screen you can put the phone in and still manipulate it. The problem is they don't make them in sizes that nicely fit modern smart phones. These days I am using their X-grips. They work great, but I know for sure on the Galaxy S8 Active that the button placement makes it difficult to use. The staggered placement with the bixby button so low means I do have to place it in the mount uncomfortably close to the bottom of the phone, not leaving much room. That said, I've never had a problem with it losing grip or dropping a phone, even with the S8 that close to the edge. They do have a larger size X-grip now but I don't have that to try out. The only real downside to the X-grip is that it leaves your device exposed to the elements. Most phones are waterproof or at least semi waterproof these days so it isn't a big deal, but that can be an issue for some phones and more extreme conditions. The RAM mounting points can be put anywhere, I've used the brake master cylinder cover mount, the U-bolts to attach to the handlebar, the one that connects to the mirror perch, and I like their "tough claw" that allows me to quickly clamp a mount to a bike, making it easy for me to move them between bikes. https://www.rammount.com/shop-all/motorcycle/compo nents http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/634800.jpg |

Thanks for the input gents. I am still deliberating between the RAM X-grip (large), and Ciro which I didn't know about; I am leaning toward the Ciro as I've heard some (but not many) complaints about the rubber coming off (and the mount itself tilting/shaking on the RAM). But maybe I'll just keep an eye out for either to go on sale first; both are a little pricey. |

Throw it in the top case? If you do pad it , foam block, bubble wrap, stick it in a glove. Ive had several items come apart from vibrations. Screws have come out of glasses, writing pens come apart, even the screw came out of scissors that cannot even come out! Probably a high frequency right handed unscrewing torque. I use it to disassemble small parts without damaging screw heads. It works way better than liquid wrench! |

LOL, The XT top case did that. The case on Lil Red, not so much. My phones have survived the treatment. The phone is just an electronic leash my wife put on me. |

I have a RAM on my Uly, but I put a GUB on my 1190SX, and like it better for not interfering with the side buttons and having a screw down locking mechanism. Check out GUBbike.com. Pics are too big to load. |

Looks like Amazon has the GUB. Never heard of it, but well reviewed and cheap enough. I think I'll give it a try.
