Any shops or others around flowery branch Georgian? Belt is slack but still goes. Sounds like gravel though. How far safe to ride? Thanks. Better now than on the way to nova Scotia in October. |

Agreed, by all means do not ride. You could easily damage your wheel if it's not already. It could also lock up if the balls get wedged in there. I would take the wheel off and take it to a shop. |

Well I didn't ride it once I figured out what it was, I limped it off the highway so hopefully no further damage. It didn't sound like gravel until I was off the highway. Now the question of where. Anyone know good shops in the Atlanta area? |

You may want to ask on the Quick Board; http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/4062.html?1560653055 |

Well it seems I'm attempting this myself assisting my good friend who knows more than me. We're unable to get the axle out because what's left of the bearing (brake rotor side) won't budge. We've tried to persuade it but it won't budge. Is there a method that we've missed? Hit it harder? Seems the swing arm is taking the brunt of that. Heat it up? Is that a possibility? It seems we're thinking we'll have to cut through the axle to get it off and buy new. St. Paul HD has some on their website so we should be OK I think for $76. I'm thinking about changing the belt while all that is taken apart because I don't know if I might have caused any stress to it even though it's only got about 8000 miles on it. Any help is appreciated. Uly deserves to go to Nova Scotia later this year. |

Did you loosen the pinch bolt for the axle under the swing arm? |

Get a rod that is about the same size as the axle, use it as a drift to force the axle out. |

Yes, pinch bolt loosened. Clarification, the axle is half out, the rotor side of the axle won't go through the belt side of the swingarm. We've got a rod and ran it through the wheel to get to the other side of the axle and have put some good hits into it but apparently to the point of refusal. |

Is the inner race of the bearing loose and locking the axle up? |

What Ourdee said, the axle is a snug fit and will lock up if not true. You say that it’s half out, does that mean it’s stuck in the pulley side bearing? You might get lucky by going back and forth, tap in slightly to try and realign the race then back out again, repeat as necessary. Last resort before cutting would be heat, but you’d need a concentrated flame on the inner race. A small braze/weld tip would be the best bet. Oh, that’s a two bearing wheel, right? |

Recommend that bike is lifted, and then support rear tire, without lifting. Then re-engage axle into rotor side. Now again try to remove with all in alignment. |

We got the wheel off yesterday, ended up cutting the axle. The other side had essentially mushroomed not allowing the spacer I think to go through. Either way St. Paul HD is going to get some business. Doug over there says he has what I need. |

Wow. Post some gore pictures! Did you use a torch? Is the wheel OK? |

Mushroom? Hope you mean on the inside of the axle from corrosion. I would think that any other cause would have destroyed the wheel. The good news is that the remaining piece of the axle can be used to drive out the pulley side bearing since it won’t come out by itself. |

I just did my rear bearings last month. Also, new belt and re painted the sprocket in bedliner spray. Clean everything was really bad. oh, also installed a new adjustable belt tensioner. Lot of disassembling. But, done and happy. If you are south Florida, I will be glad to help you. |
