A friend has a 2007 Ulysses that he parked in his garage about 8 years ago, after what turned out to be his last ride. The gas and other fluids have been sitting since then. To get it running again what would I need to do as far as the in-frame gas tank and the fuel injectors? Thanks |

Either pull, or undo-the-shock-and-lower, the swingarm to remove the fuel pump. There is also a drain valve near the pump access. Flush the tank, maybe flush (likely replace) the pump. You can clean the lines and probably get the injectors pro-cleaned somewhere but for my money, clean the tank, decide on the pump (I'd see if it fires before just tossing it), put fresh fuel with a TON of seafoam or similar cleaner in it...and see if she'll fire up. Rough at first, to be sure, but as the seafoam circulates it should get better. |

If this were mine; I would drain and refill the fuel tank then see if it starts. Probably going to need a new battery, too. Or connect it to a jump box. |

Throw in some Seafoam and let it sit for a day and try and start it. I had a fuel injected car with 7 year old gas in it. It fired up and ran decent until I could get some fresh gas. I'd try it before going though the paces. |

i'm mostly asking how to clean the fuel system on a Ulysses. How to check for and remove any rust from the frame/tank? How to remove any sludge from the bottom of the frame/tank? On a Ulysses what's involved in getting to the injectors to remove them? I have no experience with Buells. Battery, oil, and brake-fluid replacement I assume are like most other motorcycles. |

Manual will be the main thing you will be told to buy. Rust will be on the muffler. Solution BBQ grill paint. Ratbuell gave you the answer from a factory trained mechanic's keyboard.(not a bad thing) I'm a little less refined and would echo the seafoam route with minimal work.After you get it running have an XB12 driver take it for a spin to tell you if it's running rough like an XB12 from the factory or like it needs fixed. At 70 or 80 the motor should smooth out. The power should start rolling on in the 4000 RPM range. Red line should show up right after that. If it is running right, don't be surprise that the rev limiter catches you at first. My biggest concern would be fresh meats. |

It is easy to get the wrong battery with the polarity on the wrong side with these batteries. That can be a bad can of mojo. Please, pay attention. HD parts handed my buddy the wrong one and he got lucky. |

You shouldn't have any rust in the tank, as it is aluminum (the frame). You could siphon gas out, and see how bad it is. There is a drain plug, on the fuel pump plate. If the gas you siphon is pretty bad, drain the rest out the drain plug. If it's not terrible, put fresh gas in, and give it a try. |

Take the Plastic tank/airbox cover off with 4 bolts. Take the black airbox cover off with the clips. Remove filter. Take 4 bolts out of the floor plate the filter was sitting on. Lift plate while pushing the rubber intake loose from it. Don't break the wires to the temperature sensor. Along the way there were cables and what not to be moved. You should be able to see the injectors under the floor plate. Now, back to what I said, Get a manual. I'm not being mean. It was written for a reason. |

I would not turn on the key until the fuel has been drained. I think there will be water introduced from the ethanol+atmosphere. As soon as you turn it on, the pump will drink whatever is at the bottom and force it right into the injectors. Water is more dense than hydrocarbons. |

To echo the above posts... I wouldn't worry about pulling injectors right off the bat. They're not NEARLY as susceptible to fuel rot as a carburetor jet would be. Clean the tank. Fire the pump. Add fresh, treated fuel (and oils), and start 'er up. Let it run long enough to get fresh fuel all the way through the injector setup...and go for a ride. Don't make work for yourself if you don't need to. |

I do a lot of this kind of work. Injected engines are easy. Before you turn key on unhook fuel pump fuse. Don't want the pump to run at all. 1 drain fuel tank 2 replace fuel pump/ pick up screen/hoses 3 put it back together 4 after what ever else is obvious, put premium gas with half can of sea foam in and fire it up Injectors usually are ok because when the engine shuts off the fuel flow stops. Check in tank wiring for chafing. Common issue. 12 year old in tank fuel pumps are not worth fussing with. Get the 2 big o rings for the tank\fuel pump seal. Lube with vasoline before install. |

I'm working on a Fuel injected Moto Guzzi EV and here is what I found, old gas gummed up the filter and pump. I bought a new filter, pump would not run so for a week with the pump vertical I fill it with Gum Out, left the inlet hose on so that would fill, blew compressed air into it, this freed up the check balls inside then I continue this till all I had was clean gum out coming out and the pump would spin. Also ran some gas through it with the pump running to make sure. Your results may very. Of course now the ECU seems not to work....... |

on your Guzzi, check/replace all the relays. check kill switch and sidestand switch. also the crank sensor in bell housing can accumulate swarf preventing the signal being sent, pull out and clean, don't loose any spacers under it. if it's a 98 EV you can access the trouble codes by plugging together two leads under the left side cover.
