seems to be such a no brainer; but can not get throttle cable backed off enough that it will not come into contact with the stop on the throttle body casting. following service manual 1.15,pg. 1-42. with both cables completely slackened, and twist grip at WOT, throttle cam on throttle body still contacts casting stop on throttle body. is the service manual referenced throttle cam the same as the parts book referenced "throttle lever assembly'? |

Your doing an 06? It has a idle adjuster cable under left fuel tank by the front cylinder. If your service manual is from a newer model the idle adjuster cable was not there. |

The idle adjuster would not have anything to do with WOT. It sounds like he's trying to keep the cable cam from hitting the stop on the TB at WOT. Are you trying put put less tension on the pull cable? My bike's in storage or I'd go look at it. I set my Harley up that way but don't remember how I set the Buell. |

thank you for the replies. YES '06, and '06 manual also NOT the Idle Speed adjuster. the pull cable is the throttle control cable. the "push" cable is the Idle control cable. Tootal is correct. With Throttle control cable completely screwed into the twist grip housing (shortest length), the Throttle lever assembly (what i call the throttle cable cam), at the throttle body, will still contact the throttle body casting stop @ WOT. Service manual directs to extend Throttle control cable until it just comes into contact with that casting stop when twist grip is @ WOT(Wide Open Throttle). yes i would like less tension as not wanting to stress the throttle plate rod or anything else. As it is now, there is a little deflection in the cable between the cable holder bracket at the throttle body and the so called Throttle lever assembly- while holding twist grip @ WOT, even with the throttle lever assembly touching the casting stop on the throttle body. so at least it is not stretched completely tight. The cables are not binding anywhere. Barely any difference in the tension with bars at full lock left or right. I would prefer to have just shy of hitting that stop. Just can not get it there. is the slight deflection in the cable enough not to stress throttle plate rod and associated bushings, etc.?? with the set up now (idle adjuster cable is backed out about 1/4") i have around 3-4mm slop at the twist grip. Is this too tight? What could i be missing? |

Non OEM cables? |

the pull cable is the throttle control cable. the "push" cable is the Idle control cable. Well, not exactly. Pull cable is correct but the push is not the idle control but is just a return cable in case the spring would break. Your idle cable is as Etennuly mentioned and is located at the front of the bike behind the left scoop. Teeps has a good question, are they original cables, new oem or aftermarket? I replaced my cables with new oem and had no problems with setting them. I usually crank WOT and listen to the "cam" hitting the TB and then turn it back in slowly until I don't hear it anymore and lock it down. Then I set the return cable to get around an 1/8" of play. (3mm). So it sounds like you're doing it right, your cable is just too long. Did you mistakenly reverse the cables? Can you even do that? I don't know, just spit balling... |

OK, i was using terms from the service manual' Fig. 1-46, and 1-47; & Fig.4-98, 4-99 They are OEM cables. A year ago purchased a very low mile bike from Ex-Buell employee in East Troy. It is also an '05 early production. Still had the original set of tires. Rode it a couple thousand miles last summer, and am going thru and doing all the things that will need to be done. are there updated cables; either throttle and/or clutch that incorporated some type of a teflon sleeve? Is there any adjustment by manipulating the cable bracket at the throttle body by loosening the 2 screws and shifting its position a little, or would the adjustment be too negligible to affect? |

well, see it is only the clutch cable that got the update. think i'll have a look inside the twist grip housing to see if there is anything strange going on in there before manipulating the throttle cable bracket at throttle body. |

I think you're overthinking it... |

Maybe your bike has one of these infamous kits on it http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/817569.html?1511490034 |

Is there any adjustment room remaining at the cable anchor bracket at the throttle body? |

IIRC that kit was a retrofit 08 throttle cam which made the low end easier to cope with. Fortunately, using ecmspy, you could dial in the lower end making it smooth to where you didn't need the kit. |

Ratbuell is most likely correct. Very glad to say it does NOT have the weird limiting cam set up. with the cable fully seated into the cable bracket @ the throttle body, i could get maybe 1/8" deflection of the cable.(@ WOT, and Cam in contact with the stop) Will check tomorrow and see if the cable will pull out any at the throttle cable bracket; but i think it is seated pretty snug in there( i do know that i verified it was fully seated into bracket. Thanks for input |

You're talking about a 13/14 year old cable. Chances are excellent that it has that much stretch in it from years of use...make sure your ferrules aren't pulling off either end, set your grip slop, ride, smile, repeat. |

as soon as i get snow moved out, i'll check the ferrules also. weird part is is not as if stretch But as if it has shrunk |

ah, I was reading your posts 'backwards' with the way you were describing things. Sounded like the cable was loose in the end fittings. I'm talking cable, not cable housing/sheath. The sheath could "shrink" over time if the end piece (the metal top-hat) wasn't pressed fully on at the factory, and time-and-use pressed it further onto the black coated sheath...its a decade-and-a-half, things move and shift. |
