Been away since my '06 was stolen. Went through about 4 bikes since then and came back around to the Uly. My pillion in a million just wasn't comfy on the Gw or the Strom so we sold them off and bought a 2009 Uly. Our '06 was bought new and with the full H&B luggage setup. Still have the top case. I've looked around at St.Paul HD and Fleabay. Done some googling, but I'm not really finding just the racks. Does anyone know the part numbers? Is HD still making them available?? The Happy Trails setup looks pretty good, but the pictures on their site are horrible. If anyone here has good pictures I'd sure appreciate seeing them. Thanks! and it's good to be back. Corey |

its not that hard to make your own if you're handy. I fabbed up a rack out of 1" aluminum angle iron and bolted on some 40MM ammo cans |

True. Still want to see what's currently available and see if the fab time is worth it. Plus, I'm not that skilled. |

I would suggest just getting the H&B racks since the design work has already been done and you already have the top box. You could then get the much better H&B gobi or junior bags with the "non-break for no reason latches". Those are on my short list but my originals have not broken yet so I haven't had a reason to replace them. |

Just remember: no top case if you don't have side racks on the bike! The additional bracing of the side racks is required in order to run a top case. |

"Just remember: no top case if you don't have side racks on the bike! The additional bracing of the side racks is required in order to run a top case." Is this for real? I've been running the top case without the side brackets for over a year with no issues. What's the background? *************disgregard************ I just found the Buell installation instructions on the net and first warning is to not install the topcase bracket without the side brackets. I know what I'll be doing today. Seems like a worst case scenario though... if the tail section is designed to carry two people it should be able to handle the 11 lb payload of the case without bracing. BTW - Thanks Ratbuell for mentioning this. (Message edited by giarcg on May 08, 2018) (Message edited by giarcg on May 08, 2018) |

>>>Is this for real? It is for real. Don't think "11#" . . . think frequency. Correct . . . inspect and ride on in great joy. |

^^^^^ I wonder if that one remaining rear muffler strap held out on the uncomfortable ride home! |

I also ran topcase without side racks for a while, then I noticed one afternoon on a smooth highway, I was admiring my shadow and noticed the topcase bouncing up and down like a diving board when the rest of the shadow was steady. Now I normally still only have the topcase attached, but I never take the side racks off. They do provide the needed rigidity. |

It's a matter of leverage. Put 11 pounds on the rider seat it means nothing, move it to the pilon position you can feel it. Move to to the down position seat bracket you notice it. Put the bag mount on moves it back not only further from the center of gravity, but also further from the angled structural support arms. The side bag brackets transfer a good portion of the load to the rear peg brackets. Easy theory to test. Hold a bowling ball in against your gut. Noticeable but controllable. Hold it out at arms length. Leverage will pull you down in a short time. Rig an angle bracket to your ankles, control is back and leverage is negated. 11 pounds can be a lot more than you would think. |

And like Court said - it's not the weight so much as the frequency at which it vibrates. A human passenger doesn't vibrate like a tuning fork. A piece of metal and plastic...does. Combine that with the lever/diving board effect...and you get what's in Froggy's photo. Buell had some reasonably intelligent people working for them...if they say "use the side racks", I use the racks. |

There's a person in Calgary, AB selling a set of side racks, top rack, and two Junior side cases. Presumably the racks match the cases. $500 CDN -- pretty good price: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-motorcycle-parts-accessori es/calgary/2008-buell-ulysses-rear-rack-top-rack-a nd-oem-side-cases/1351030997 |

The price is right, but a 28 hours away might be a little steep!! Wish I had the time, though. Be a great excuse for a ride up to Canada,eh? |

https://harleyhummer.com/ Not a Zandap, but I believe a lot of the bikes in the 50's were based on them. |

So, to update this thread- I ended up buying a kit from Happy Trails. Made in Boise, ID and the racks are much stouter than the stock stuff. I opted for the 7.5" Owyhee model. Very easy to install. I like that they are about the same width as my handlebars.

Not tryin' to essplode anyone's brain or nuthin', but you mentioned your new Uly being an 09. That motor in the Happy Trails pics isn't blacked out, so might it be an 08? Or did you Canadians get something different than we southies? Either way, pretty bike. |

Portero72 - you are right. It's a 2007. I had a brain fart there. Looked at the title and yep- '07. |

It's got the motor of an 08... Oval ignition cover on the right side gives it away. |

By golly... you sir, are correct. It even says 25th Anniversary right on the bar mount. Too many toys and a case of oldsheimers disease! |
