2006 Uly with stock exhaust, EBR ECM and K & N filter. It feels a little flat below 3000 RPM, maybe lean. Local tuner who knows his stuff said there is no easy way to re-tune the EBR ECM. Suggested it might be the variable exhaust valve being closed and try to hold it open. 1. is that a good plan and 2. i think Trojan made a gadget to do that ; where might i get one now? Thanks |

Make sure your servo and cable aren't borked. My bike is set up exactly like yours and it didn't have a hole in the power down there. My servo crapped out and now it feels a bit flat. |

IIRC the valve at the muffler opens at full throttle and is closed at lower rpm to increase torque. check the service manual |

Being in need of a TPS reset can cause a flat spot as well as other run maladies. If you do that be sure to clean the edge of the throttle plate and warm up the engine fully. |

However, I was warned by EBR not to use the free version of ECM SPY. Get the donation version to reset the TPS. The free version only works on 06 and 07 stock ecm's. |

I may have found the problem. There are two round holes on the left side of the airbox which i don't see in the shop manual pictures. So I presume previous owner added them to get more top end. so after checking actuator operation and TPS i might tape them over to and make decision on the trade off of bottom end vs, top end performance. Make sense? |

Never ridden your bike, but it’s worth it to note that these engines were not made to putt around at lower engine speeds very well. In fact, most people consider sub 3k rpm to be lugging it. I fear you may be chasing a problem that is just normal Buell behavior. |

The 06 drew air from only the right side of the airbox. There was a lot of heat on that side so in 07 the factory put holes in the left side to draw cooler and more air. Many of us "installed" a few holes on that side. This would only effect top end not the bottom. Were you able to do a proper tps reset? This really makes a difference. |

tootal, with the '07 air box or the hole added to '06, is the required ecm map change?, still using oem air filter. |

The air box drilling mod made mid upper acceleration feel and sound a little better. No change needed in ECM. It "learned" the difference and adjusted for it automatically. These bikes "learn" and adjust to how you ride as you are riding. They are happier running 3000 rpm up. Over about a ten minute period it will learn. The harder and faster you run it, the faster and harder it will run. Although I keep it under red line always.shifting at 4900 to 5200 will wake it up. I found this learning program most notable when hauling ass on the way home, then shut it down and coast in. Next time out It is amazing how powerful it will feel after warm up, out of the box. |

etennuly, thank you. agreed 3000rpm up is where it wants to run. will try the hard run home, ending with coast. live on gravel so will just keep it spinning.... |

It is kind of a fun surprise to yourself if you had been out on a spirited ride one day, to park the Uly for say a couple of weeks. Time enough to forget. Next time out I do my normal idle for five minutes or so warm up, then get on the road to the first throttle twist! It feels like a ten horse power boost compared to coming in from a slow ride. These bikes are so fun when you pick up on the little nuances. |
