Except for the odometer, the display has been resetting everything back to zero and the clock to 1:00, I think this is happening on start up, maybe the load from starting, reduced voltage at start up? This is on a 2006,never had this issue before, |

Been having this problem for the past 2 years, just replaced the battery with one from Harley and all problems are gone. No more hesitation on startup, and no more resetting of the clock or trip odometers |

I though of that but my battery (Harley) is only a couple years old. Could be though. I do get that lag on start up but I always have. |

Have you ever fixed the ground wires at the steering head. A common problem. When mine did it I could duplicate the problem by sweeping the handlebars left, right lock to lock. The wire harness right behind the forks were it goes to dash is where my problem was. There is a ton of articles on this problem here. |

The reset is due to low voltage like you mention. Often it is just an aging battery and the voltage sags too much during startup, but it also could be a wiring issue compounding it. |

Those 3 ground wires on the steering head can break inside the insulation. Remove them and test all three with an ohm meter. Hook up the meter and bend them around. That's how I found my problem. I ended up splicing all three wires together along with a single 16ga. wire which I coiled up and attached to the steering head. The coil takes the vibration and turning of the forks. No more problems since then. |

If you put a voltmeter on the battery and then hit the starter, it's not supposed to drop below 10V Check your terminals too! My original battery that came with my 2008 had screws that were too long! I torqued them down and the terminals still moved around. I ground down the screws by "enough" and then they would tighten without bottoming out. |

I have been experiencing that too with the clock and trip resetting. I also noticed if I turn the wheel lock to lock I can sometimes get the gauges to sweep as if I turned the key on. It turns out there are two sets of wires spliced together in the harness. Located right in the steering head area. I haven't fixed mine yet but it's going to be a winter project along with 3 other major operations on my 09 Buell. I stole another Buellers pic but it's the red wire splice and I think the brown wire for the blinkers are spliced. At the moment I loosened the clamp holding the wires to the neck and now it rarely resets but it still happens from time to time with a full lock to lock.

Steve, Try this; Hit the starter button and release it right away so that it just started to turn the engine. Then hit it just a second later for the start. Should turn right over then. |

I thought that photo looked familiar. Sprintex, these two threads might help as well: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/402204.html?1224732205 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/439477.html?1356196255 BTW, that first repair to the instrument power wire was 'temporary' and was still in place 45,000 miles later when the old '06 got parked. |

Always check the easy stuff first! Lose neg connector on battery. Self dope slap. But I am going to check all the grounds. |
