Like clockwork, it goes on strike every Summer.
Belt, she pop. Replace belt.
Oil cooler, she leak. Replace oil cooler.
Idle adjuster cable, she stiff, lube and when I go to tighten adjuster by hand get electric shock from plug lead. Fungool!
TPS, she croak. Need to order a new one.
Like to fix with dynamite sometimes.

Other than that, the old creampuff is running great at 105,000 miles.

I know the feeling, even though mine only has ~50-some thousand on it.

I bought mine a present and installed an IDS race ECM this week. Installed a K&N filter I'd bought a couple of months ago. Noticed interactive muffler valve cable has a lot of slack; cable is frozen up. Applied mass quantities of Liquid Wrench and cable lube and worked cable back and forth as much as possible. It's barely any better. Ordered a new cable from Lance that will hopefully be here in time to be installed prior to 2 weeks of riding twisties in the NC mountains.

Only you Steve!!! Hope you replaced that plug wire too! BTW, I raised my coil up 3/4" and now the front plug wire goes between the throttle cables and takes some slack out so it doesn't rub on the frame. At least not as bad.

What was funny is that my wife stepped outside to let the dog out right as I got zapped so she got to see me jerk my hand back and start going you motherfu*king hunka you get the idea.
I didn't even know she was there, she told me about it later after I announced the TPS croaked.
Oh well, tomorrow's another day.

I never praise the Useless.
I did once and it paid me back by breaking down for bragging about how wonderful it is.
The old pile is back on the road again, new TPS cured that hiccup it was getting when it was hot and stuck in traffic.
The electric shock was just a dislodged spark plug boot so no plug lead required.
New tires coming up soon as it chugs its way towards the 110,000 mile service.

New battery on order, need to replace the front isolator before it buzzes my right hand off, ignition switch has to come off to see why the fork lock stopped working last Winter. Probably crusted in place.
Hand me the bigger hammer, willya?

Tip on the oil cooler leak, I replaced the braided steel hoses (stiff!) with plain ol' rubber lines and so far it seems to have stopped the fitting-crack-and-leak issue.

Fork lock, I recommend silver anti seize once it is freed up.

Does the fork lock not work or does it not engage? In other words did it break and fall out or is it stuck? It's a 10mm pin in a 1/2" hole in the tree. It would have to be stuck in the lock housing and that's not a lot of support for it but it could be corroded.

I'll know more once I get motivated and take the switch out. It started getting hard to actuate over the Winter and nothing fell out when I replaced the steering stem bearings so it's probably stuck.
I think I might replace those oil lines like you suggested, I'm now on my third oil cooler which seems ridiculous.

Ratbuell: was there any difference in inner diameter between the stock lines and the rubber ones that replaced them? the xb9 piston swap, is it the 07 crank failure motor that you are rebuilding?

The Mighty Useless has been experiencing low idle as over time the cable adjuster had worn into the cam.
Okay, I'll just pull out the throttle body and oh no, I am not rotating the motor down so soon.
Ended up taking off the spring on the cable which let me screw it in far enough to bring the idle back up. We'll see if it unscrews over time.
Rear rocker box cover is leaking again so eventually I will be rotating the motor down to pull the cover and lap it even with a plate of glass and some valve lapping compound and then glue the damned thing shut.
It's always something. Time to go ride a Triumph and think pure thoughts.

The good news is it handles great with new Michelin Pilot Road 4 tires.
