what tires is everyone riding now? it seems there are fewer and fewer options available that fit out bikes. I wanted to get a set that were 60/40 or 70/30 road/trail. | ||

I have Goldentyre GT201. They are awesome for dry pavement, but riscky for wet pavement. On off road are good. You can see front in my profile pic.  | ||

How well do those gt201's do in the twisties? Those outer tread blocks look a little sketchy. Also what kind of mileage do you get out of them? They look like a good tire for me | ||

I have allways used on off tires. These ones have good handlng in dry pavement. In off are good too. But, if you touch water. They are very slippery. Too much I say. Today, back home raining, I was drifting in any roundabout or in hard accelerations. In the rear I have 12k miles and is not totally finished. The front better. I will not put again these tires due to I use my Uly every year. | ||

12k miles! I put 4k on my pirelli scorpion trail II and the rear is just past half gone. But they handle superbly on the road, wet or dry. They are capable off but I would not get too carried away. | ||

I had a set of Scorpion Trails that I loved in the rain and on the street. They surprised me off road in that they were better than I had expected but certainly the name implies more than they were capable of. I punctured my rear time on a dirt road that didn't have much in the way of sharp rocks. Recently I put an Avon Trailrider on the rear. I haven't put enough miles on them to give a total review but the profile feels good, they worked really good on some dry dirt roads while two up. They didn't feel as connected to wet road as the Trail or the D616. I haven't put them through any hard corners on the asphalt yet. So far they seem to fit the bill for me. I've read some very mixed review on their wear. Time will tell.  | ||

 I finally got around to installing this Karoo III and let me tell you it shreds the grass and dirt but can still hold the road extremely well. Much better than I expected. | ||

+1 on the Avon Trailrider. Good character on & off road. First ride was in rain before they were even scuffed and I was very impressed with how much grip they had wet with the release agent still on them. Not enough miles to comment on wear characteristics, but hoping the dual compound gets me more life than I was getting out of the stock Scorpions. | ||

I've recently mounted the Avon Trailriders front and rear. Heading down to VA/KY tomorrow on a 2500+ kilometre round trip. There will be some superslab and a lot of twisty back roads. Looking forward to seeing how they wear, but I was encouraged by these folks who ran them on a Triumph T100 and a Yamaha XT660. I just put 3600km on my new set of Trailriders. I didn't weight the bike, but my weight plus luggage is about 135kg or 300lbs. The first 1000km or so was slabbing it in the heat at 70-80 mph to Nashville, TN, then on to Norton, VA at a brisk pace on main roads. In Norton we spent several days on twisty mountain roads and a bit of gravel and primitive fire roads. On the way home we passed through the "Back of the Dragon" in VA (in the rain), and then loads of dry twisty pavement up through WV. The last 750km was slabbing it at 70-80mph in cooler temps. I'm really happy with the wet and dry pavement handling of these tires. They were also very good on gravel and rocky roads, both wet and dry. We stayed out of some of the gnarlier stuff, as Tropical Storm Cindy made things a little too soft and muddy for big bikes with street-ish tires. I regret not measuring the tread depth before we left, but here are some "after" pictures of the rear. They are starting to square off, but I don't think I used up more than 50% of the tread:      | ||

Pretty even wear. Do they have that extra silica added to the center of the tread for longer life? | ||

The Trailrider rear does have a multi-compound tread for better wear; the centre stripe of it shows a little in the pics. I really liked the Dunlop D616 when they were available, but I did not like their short lifespan. In my experience the D616 would've been close to done after a trip like that. The Trailrider is a worthy successor. | ||

Based on what I read here and confirmed on Revzilla I went with the Avon Trailriders and had them installed in Woodstock, GA Saturday morning. After some getting used to they're doing just fine. After installation me and some friends headed up to Suches, GA and stumbled upon OctoVemberSmokinJimBuellFest and ran into some friendlies. I also unfortunately tested them in the rain on the way back home with some slow speed maneuvers going over Wolfpen Gap and some high speed maneuvers heading down I-85. No issues. I'm not very tuned in to minute differences between tires but I swapped out some excessively worn out (I blame the straightaways of IN) pure street Avons and I don't think I lost any grip. Now I just need to figure out some off road jaunts I can take. | ||

Interested in Trailrider reports, that's the one that's been on my radar for the '06. PR4's are great tires but I miss my fire roads! |
