Have been a lurker on this great forum since 2010 when I picked up a brand new '08 XT. Have really appreciated all the great info on this site. Have posted a wanted message in the classifieds, but thought I'd throw out a query here as well. My front engine isolator went south today and the good folks at St Paul H-D are telling me that there are none to be had in the H-D system and that it is back ordered till Jan '17. Did an internet search with no luck. Anybody out there know where there is one to be had or have any suggestions on places to try to find one? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

ebay or motorcycle salvage yard http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-up-Buell-Firebolt-L ightning-Motor-Mount-Set-Used-/122169083562?hash=i tem1c71d846aa http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ENGINE-MOUNT-FRONT-MOTOR -BRACKET-XB9SX-XB9R-XB12R-XB12S-XB12X-03-10-04-05- 06-07-/131954487549?hash=item1eb919b0fd From what I see in the photos both mounts appear to be early style mounts but would be better than nothing... There is another thread here about this part situation. You should probably get one on back order for next year. |

Surdyke HD is still showing it in stock on their site. At least under the original 08 part number L1501.02A8. |

Don't get a used early style isolator ,they are all worn out ,and worthless! Only a new one or the new version is good. |

I've replaced two isolators on two XB's. I couldn't tell any difference after either, but maybe that's just me. If I had a failed one (like ripped into two pieces), and new ones were on back order, I'd put on a used pull that isn't torn and keep riding until the new one showed up. |

On the early style isolators it isn't always good to see if they are worn or the rubber is not bonded to the alloy anymore ,so i think it is not worth to risk it. |

OK I finally had time to look into the reason for the long back order on the ISO mounts. HD changed the supplier and they had a 20 week lead time before they can start shipping. At this point have 60 mounts on back order waiting for the Jan 18th release date. |

That's GREAT news that HD sourced them rather than simply saying (which would be perfectly legal and within their rights) screw it . . that's the end of them. |

It used to be Barry controls, right? Barry controls is now Hutchinson. Or is a third different name on them now? |

There was a guy on the BuellXB Forum that was working on a home-brewed rebuild for these isolators. His first attempt looked very promising but didn't work out. I haven't checked back to see if he later came up with a better solution. It's a pity they don't rebuild these things. I hate to see a ~$50 precision machined casting get thrown away due to a torn $5 piece of rubber. |

Yes, it is good that HD will continue to supply parts. I'm going to order one now while the price is still only $85. question for Lance: When placing a backorder using a credit card to pay. Do you charge the card at the time of the order or when the order is full filled? |

Our point of sale system will not allow us to swipe and charge later. What I can go anyone that wants one or more just email me and I'll start a list and contact everyone once I receive them. I have 60 on back order at this time and will most likely be ordering in more. Please contract me at lkugler@stpaulhd.com DO NOT include any CC info at this time. Please state how many you want and shipping info. |

Nate, even if we knew the supplier. There is zero chance that we could access the part direct from them, even when HD stops ordering the part. Someone would have to pay HD to license the part or pay them royalties. And, then there is probably a minimum order. Lance, Understood. Being retired on fixed income, I'm torn between ordering one from you or the local dealer and just paying up front the current price. Then waiting for the order fulfillment next year. Or, going on your waiting list, then finding out the price for non back ordered parts have increased... And, of course shipping to CA from MN. |

Teeps, When I place an order with HD and its on back order I hold them to the price I ordered them at. Anyone that I have on the list will get them at the current price not the price increase if there is one. The last time HD had the had the long back order on the L0505.9 rear tuber isolator mount they increased the cost on the items 3 times while it was on back order. I sold them to anyone that had them on order at the original of $17.95 not the new price of $96.67, it's the right thing to do. |

Wow, it's a cool thing that your dealer would allow you that latitude... to do the right thing. The owner must be a bike(er) guy or gal. |

It about doing what is right for the customer, with in reason. We are HD's customer and all of you are our customers. It takes all of us to make this all work out. |

Interesting... the bushing appears to be solid. I would be great if the (isolation) performance is as good as the OEM part. Anyone here planning on trying one? I guess worse case the bike would be ridable with a solid mount, though it would probably shake like wash plant. (Message edited by teeps on April 12, 2017) |

Did that once with a first style worn out isolator ,well it was not solid ,but did put a ring of rubber above and below the sheared isolator. At low speed/rpm's it shaked like crazy ,but highway speeds was pretty solid! although it was a one time ride . |

I've still got two spare OEM motor mounts lying around. One off that busted Firebolt and one completely new in the box, so I won't have to try TM's replacement part anytime soon, but it's good to know they've got something at least for when we need it.
