It's a pretty big job, but not that difficult. The hardest part of the job is rotating the engine, which sounds really intimidating, but it's not that bad if you take your time. An excellent source of "how to" articles with photographs can be found at Twin Motorcycles. Here's a good step-by-step on engine rotation: http://www.twinmotorcycles.com/artikelen.asp?cid=2 0&aid=832 Here's one video I found on youtube from someone else showing the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpOH2Uf8u9c If your fan is suspect, it'd be good to change it while you're in there. Mine recovered from an oil soaking and lasted another ~20k miles until I preemptively replaced it, but some people haven't been so lucky. |

That's the reason my fan died. Covered and cooked in oil. Save the fan I always say. When you do job on gaskets, go ahead n change fan as suggested, check to see if it's still good. If not, there a thread on buying a much cheaper spaL fan and a way a gentleman cut the frame and put a new spal fan in old frame. Probably save 100 bucks or so. In other words, keep the old fan and use frame. Just saying! |

Here's the fan thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/762330.html The article is very complete, but if you have questions, contact Xbimmer, I'm sure he'd be happy to help. Also, now would be a good time to replace the O2 sensor, too. |
