I rode about 100 miles this morning to Devils Tower without any issues, got off the bike for about 2 hours then back on and after about a mile I hit the horn several times kinda goofing off with the prairie dogs and then about 100 yards down the road the bike shut down. i was going about 35 mph when this happened. Speedometer stuck on 80mph and the tach at 7k rpm. Disconnected then reconnected the battery, checked fuses and looked at the relays. Still no power when I turn the key. Had to have my son come get me with the pickup. Bike has a new battery and there were no other issues this morning during the ride. Started just fine several times this morning before this problem occurred. Just wondering if there is anything else simple I can try before taking it to a shop? Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Karma! You should never mess with prairie dogs!! Seriously though, check your battery cables. Make sure they can't move at all. Sometimes the screws are too long and bottom out and seem tight but the cables are still loose. You should not be able to move them using force. Also check where they connect to the frame. They may need to be removed and surfaces cleaned. Check the grounds on the front of the frame behind the headlight. |

I put a charger on it this morning and it was enough to power up the lights, but the battery was completely drained and would not start the bike. Charging it now. |

If the bike won't crank over after you charge the battery, have it tested. It could have an internal short which only shows up under high load. If that's the case, get a new battery. If the bike cranks after the battery is charged, you likely have a charging system problem which allowed the battery to completely discharge while you were riding and the failure when you blew the horn was just coincidental. |

Remove, clean, and reinstall battery to battery cable connections as well. |
