I finally broke down and took the Useless apart and before I give any money to Hardley Abelson, has anyone cross referenced the PCV valves? I didn't see it here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/723134.html?1380802845 I think I'm also going to replace the reed valve while the old pile's apart. There was just so much crap in the heads and it was even shooting mung out onto the throttle body from the rear cylinder's intake. |

Share lots of pix as you go. I'll find pix of valve that I cut in half to see insides. I can see that foam won't last forever. Gotta gunk up at some point. I'm interested in how you find Reed valve. What shape it's in, etc. |

It's too late for pictures of intake and exhaust ports as they've been soaked in kerosene, scrubbed, hunks of carbonized oil chipped loose and then given a dunk in Gunk HydroSeal. It was leaking from every seam from the head gasket on up and evidently blowing it into and out of the throttle body as well. I've never seen anything like it. |

I guess no one ever did a cross reference for these? I ended up buying from the evil MoFoCo along with a new rear cylinder and piston. So much for hitting 100,000 before it comes apart! |

I think all of this gunk that hardens up and sticks like concrete are from our modern day gasolines and their additives. I had my intake off at about 50,000 it was about 10 percent choked with hard carbon. But then I had a Ford diesel 6.0 that got so choked up with carbon I had to remove and clean the intake. Serious asthma for sure. No wonder K&N filter and air box did not make any difference. |

It used to be standard practice during an auto tune up to squirt some carb cleaner into the PCV valve, shake it around, dump it out, and make sure the internal valve was free to move. Seems like we could just do that occasionally. (Message edited by Hughlysses on July 14, 2016) |

Everything in the cam chest looks good which is a relief. Does anyone know what size socket I'll need to remove the reed valve? I can't believe they didn't use a slotted one or an Allen. It looks like it belongs inside of a switch. |
