I didn't want to thread jack the other headlight thread so... How hard is it to go from HID headlights to LED. I have HID's and seems like the low beam never stays on when I start the bike up with a cold engine. It's crank it up, run for 10 seconds, shut it down and restart. It's getting old. |

The hid' failing is because they don't have enough power from the engine startup. If you put a timing relay in between they work perfect. I got the same thing happening when i put a hid in my xb and fixed it with a 12v timing relay. |

Some of the LEDs require too much room behind the bulb. |

If put a cheap led light like the cyclops in a Kawasaki 550 and have to admit that those led,s put out a lot of light. But for the buell i would keep the HID and put a timer relay in between! |

I used this timing relay for the HID conversion. http://m.ebay.com/itm/MINI-TIMER-SWITCH-TIME-RELAY -1-TO-150-SEC-KIT-12V-20A-Delay-ON-CAR-DAYLIGHTS-/ 271066143155?nav=SEARCH |

Current LED technology cannot place the emitter at the focal point necessary for a standard headlight reflector and lens to work properly. It may be quite bright, but the light will not efficiently project where you want it to go. Keep the HIDs and install a delay relay. It is not difficult. Alternately, start the bike on high beam and the switch to low after the bike is running. What is happening is that while the starter cranks, system voltage drops enough to cause the HID system to shut down. That is why the problem does not usually occur for a warm or hot start. |

I knew that if the voltage goes low it will turn off to protect the bulbs. Didn't know there was such a thing as a timer relay. Is it a big deal to install? |

It's not really a big deal ,only one wire cut and soldered with two wires together. And make a new ground or cut the ground wire and put the relay wire in between. I made some pics when i did mine ,can post them if you want. |

Brother_in_Buells, Yes, I'd love some pictures. I don't have any issue cutting and soldering but knowing where and what to cut and solder is the issue...lol |

Or do what I do. Wait for the EFI/engine light to go out. Bump the start button for a split second. That frees the engine internals and eliminates the "crank-pause" that douses the HID. That "uunnnnnmgghh!" pause is the only thing that douses my HID. After you bump, start as usual. No need to wait for the light again, just hold till it starts. I use to do the bump pause thing. It was the only way my uly would start. Finally went to HD and demanded a very new battery, not one that had been sitting there for a while. Now i just push and hold and no problems. This may change as the battery ages. Put the hid on a hard switch so the bike cranks without the light on. You just have to remember to cut your light switch on like in 1964. Hid low\high l adv monster leds. Mucho light. Hid high beam is redundant with the adv monster 60's. |

Zane ,sorry i totally forgot this thread! Here are the pics i made when doing the timer relay install for the HID light. So you cut the black (ground) wire from your buell (or strip a small piece of the isolation and solder the black from the timing relay onto it. Also cut the red wire from the buell and solder the white and red wire from the relay together with the side that comes from the buell wiring harness. The other white wire from the timing relay is soldered together with the red wire that goes into the connector. Also put some crimping hose on the wires before soldering them together. i hope it's clear enough for you ,if not let me know! cheers for the weekend |

Excellent. Thanks for the pictures and directions. This is clear enough that even I can understand it. |
