Hey Guys, I have been searching for a nice Uly for quite some time now and I think I finally found "the one". It is a local '08 XT in red. I have been riding motorcycles for about 15 years now but never owned a Buell before. On paper the Uly "checks all the boxes" and I am very excited about owning one without ever throwing a leg over one. I have been lurking on this site for over a year and I feel like I have gained a ton of knowledge from you. However, I am looking for any advice you are willing to give me. I will be looking this bike over in person next week. Is their anything about the '08's I should be wary of? Anything that I should be looking out for? The owner stated that he installed a new OEM ECM and relocated it because the old ECM connector cracked due to contact with the seat. He also said he modded the muffler for "sound not performance". He does have a spare stock muffler that he will throw in with the deal. I am very excited about this possibility and do not want to overlook anything in my excitement. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks, Sparky |

You will want the stock muffler. It will outperform a noisy muffler if the valve is hooked back up. Relocated ECM saves you the trouble. That's a good thing. An XT should have all three hard bags with it. Ask if he has a spare belt to go with it? My personal opinion is that the XT was the best of the XBs built. |

Replace the clutch cable and carry it as a spare and do the same with the drive belt. Use 20/50 Dino HD oil to keep the top end noise down. Comfort kit, brighter lights, lower pegs, low seat, high windshield, Garmin GPS might be something to look at. |

Head to the New Owner FAQ link at the top of the Big Bad and Dirty, it will have details on the more common issues and general questions. ECM was taken care of, the only other weakspot worth mentioning is the wheel bearings. |

Hi Sparky, I was in the same boat 2 weeks ago and just bought my first 09 Ulysses X . What a great bike!!! Just returned from a 400 mile ride this weekend and it is a great cruiser, dirtbike, sport bike and wheelie machine all rolled into one. I found a few small things that where wrong on a bike with 11,000 miles. One being a slight pulse on the front brake and once in awhile a cough coming off idle. If it happens once on a long ride, I would be over stating how often it happens but I know the plugs are original along with everything else, so I'm gonna wait until I tune her up before I complain. Go for it!!! You won't regret it ! |

Pulse on front rotor is most likely brake pad residue. Can't hold the bike at a stop with front brake, use the rear. Don't treat it like a bike with little rotors. The cough off idle is the nature of the beast, Stock ECM was programmed lean for the EPA. IDS has a race ECM that will eliminate the problem at 300 bone$. Not hard to live with though. |

Thanks for the replies guys. It looks like the guy may have already sold the bike. Bummer. The search continues. |

Well... I got some good news today. The first buyer couldn't come up with the money, so I will be looking at tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully it looks as nice in person as it does on the pictures he sent me. |
