When my wife and I headed to Colorado on I80 a few weeks back I had too much oil indicated on the dipstick. Was less than 30 miles out and the engine trouble light went on. I'm pretty sure the O2 sensor was the culprit so I adjusted our route to secondary roads and cut the speed to about 65mph which put the engine trouble light out. The overfill of oil eventually got sucked out the engine probably through the intake and all was well. Never saw the light go on again. Word to the wise, don't over fill the oil because it will kick off an engine trouble code. By the way, the trip was a hot one but the ULY never had a problem with the heat. Also road back from Sturgis a couple of weeks ago at 80 mph for a 600 mile day and the ULY had no problems at all.

You may want to remove your air box cover to clean the excess oil out of the base part. It can lead to the idle air temp sensor getting coated.

I had this problem when running the oil level to the top 'X' on the stick. It's best oil level is to the second 'X' up from the bottom. It seems any thing above that ends up in the air cleaner base.

Hell, mine blows oil out until it won't even reach the dipstick...then it stays constant for 1000 or so miles. I figure as long as I have oil pressure then i'm good though, so I will run it a bit low.

"Hell, mine blows oil out until it won't even reach the dipstick". If you have not done so I would check that the two PCVs are working ok IE Not stuck closed.

This engine has a dry sump and as such it can be difficult to set the oil level correctly. I have it with the Uly but also with my MZ Baghira and was the same with my Apilia RSV-R. All of which have a dry sump system. It is nothing, much, like a wet sump.

With the Uly I fill it cold to about "XXX" and then re-check it with a VERY hot engine as the oil expands with heating it. The oil level is not critical but it does need to be at least on the bottom "XX" hot at the engine does use some oil. Just add a little more to the 3/4 mark and check again.

Remember the air space in the oil chamber is for the expansion of heated oil and if you over fill it IE To the top mark cold you may well have a problem.

The CEL on my '06 Ulysses would come on randomly during various riding conditions.
Checking the DTC I always found it was the 02 sensor.
Replaced the 02 sensor last summer while I was in the neighborhood replacing the fan.
Have not seen the CEL on with 02 sensor code since then.

RE: Oil level.
I measure out 2.5 quarts of oil.
Fill the oil filter, full...
Add the rest to the oil tank.
Run engine for a few minutes, then check the oil level.

Etennuly,
I probably should take a look at the idle air temp sensor. I've cleaned the oil off the base plate countless times over the years. On the trip the oil leveled off in the swingarm nicely and stayed there even through the next trip out and back from Sturgis.
