Shell gasoline clearly causes severe narcolepsy in Ulys. Use at you own risk. My Uly was upright before receiving a full tank of V-Power 93 octane. Not fifteen minutes later, it took a nap without warning.

Just one of many tumbles during a fun day of dual-sporting. Wish I had more for you guys, but I forgot the GoPro on the counter and got too muddy to use the phone later into the ride.

The Ulysses is about as poorly suited to that use as a vehicle can be. . . . . . but, as you have discovered . . . is a hell of a lot of fun. It does require some effort to right when nap time is over . . . and, genius those Elves are . . with the bags on there is just about nothing you can do to hurt it. P.S. - thanks for sparing us the GoPro . . . I. for one, have tired of the second by second accounts of folks days . . . your words and a couple photos painted a wonderful picture. |

You were doomed from the start trying to take those tires off road... The tires matter more than the bike once the dirt gets wet. (Don't get me wrong, I think that taking those tires there was a bad idea, but it was a totally awesome one! ) |

I roll video, but I would have had at most 10 - 20 seconds or so of video out of the three hours of riding that would have been worth sharing. "The Ulysses is about as poorly suited to that use as a vehicle can be" Nothing ever breaks when it falls over which makes it more suitable than many of the other heavy-metal bike options out there. "You were doomed from the start trying to take those tires off road.." Yes, I would have killed for a set of TKC80s. We did about 30 miles on those types of trails that day. If I subtract distance covered while sliding on the bike's side, then I probably spent about 20 miles upright. I knew the tires were ill suited, especially considering the torrential rains we've been getting lately. Even the Saharas on the TR650 were too street biased for the wet sections. There is a lot of sand in this area which made for a pretty good surface in many places since all the water made it pack down pretty well. We could skirt around a lot of waterholes, and the spray and pray technique was use for some of the really swampy spots. It was fun, but my quads got a workout. |

"Damn logs are slippery when wet." The real problem was the patch of mud in front of that diagonal log across the trail. The front wheel sank about eight inches almost immediately when I hit it, resulting in more of an impact with the log rather than just coasting over it. |

I like the Husky a lot, Sagehawk. It does well on the tarmac and proved to be very capable in the rough. I think it is a keeper. |

I sure was wanting to get back on a husky when i saw that bike in the usa. and the new price was really reasonable. Then the sale happened. All my vision was gone then. Ktm took care of almost all the street legal models that I was interested in. the 650 terra, the 900 nuda. I really wanted to check one of those out. |

I cringe when I see pics like that. I love my Uly but I know what a real dual sport feels like in the woods and the Uly aint it! You could have gone over that little mud puddle so easily in my old KLR250. I've seen kids in the woods with all manner of dumb things though. Ever come around a corner and find yourself face to face with a 1978 Nova? The kids were just bulldozing their way through broomstick-sized saplings at 3 miles per hour. What I saw as a curvy path through trees, they saw as a straight slow section |

" Even that TR650, which is still a heavy bike compared to a 250-class machine, handled that without a hiccup - nothing like a 21" front hoop to climb over obstacles. The Uly's front just sank into that mud hole in front of the log. Of course, the fact that the Uly isn't a "real" dual-sport is part of what makes this stuff fun. |

Something along the lines of a KLR/DR, but with way more power, refinement, fuel injection, much better suspension out of the box, and it doesn't look like a dirt bike from the early '80s. I was bummed when KTM killed the TR650s and wasn't thrilled at the prospect of owning two orphaned bike models. But ultimately, the TR650 offered exactly what I was looking for in an adventure bike, so I pulled the trigger. I paid $4900 for the Husky, and I am certain I'll get that much joy out of it. |

Oh yeah! They were 7000.00 new on showroom werent they? At this point, a dr 650 is what im thinking now. Cant have two out of production bikes in garage. Heck, the 2 harleys are 19 years old allready. |

$4900 is less than my aforementioned KLR250!($5100) WIN!! They're calling it a KLX250S now. No kick starter anymore but at least they are still carbed. ha ha ha. |

Nate, if you are sticking to offroad, do yourself a favor and try some seat time on a KDX-200 (or a KTM-350 if you are rich). Makes the KLR250 (which I like) feel like a pig. I have a good KLR-250 head out in the garage somewhere. I need to dig it out and put it on Ebay. |

"$4900 is less than my aforementioned KLR250!($5100) " I agree it was a killer deal. It is a true 50/50 road off-road bike, in my opinion. You can hop along at 85 mph on the tarmac with ease and smoothness with still enough reserve to pass or dice up a curvy road. You can, if you proceed cautiously and have the right tires, go just about anywhere a dirt bike can go. Just don't do any doubles or pivot turns along the way if you like your femurs: she's still a relatively heavy bike. |
