a couple of difficulties i've tried doing belt first, then tensioner & tensioner/ belt.... no go either way thus far. this is a new belt. also, when i tighten the axle, the wheel becomes hard to turn - the seal on the brake side is causing drag. it is a new seal. i damaged the old one when i lost the 2010 wheel spacer. i can't find a spec on how deep the seal should be - i have it flush with the edge of the wheel. suggestions? deanyoungiii@gmail.com 615 545 1111 texts ok |

So is the wheel hard to turn without the belt on it? If so figure that out first. You should have a dust seal behind the spacer. If it's rubbing then press it in further. If the wheel is hard to turn after the belts on then that might be normal until the belt stretches a little. The way I installed a new belt was to back out the axle to allow the wheel to pull forward. Loosen the tensioner and remove one bolt to allow it to rotate. Install the belt. Rotate the tensioner into position and install bolt and tighten. Tighten the axle. |

I like the idea of replacing the lower tensioner stud with a bolt... I got in on yesterday & gonna do a front tire change today. Looking forward to a ride! Dean |

Don't feel bad. I've spent some time trying to figure out where the spacer goes since getting the 2010 rear wheel. finally got a schematic (can't recall if Al sent it with the wheel?) where I remember to look at it until i get myself retrained. |

Anyone got a link or .pdf of this schematic? I have a '10 wheel that was on a bike when I got it, would like to know the assembly when/if it's time for a tire change... |

Holy cr*p! I'm glad I clicked on this link. I don't recall ever seeing anything about the spacer and I just checked and I have no such spacer, at least not that I can see. Don't recall anything loose when I fitted the wheel. Got my wheel from Al, with bearings pressed-in. Would this spacer have been loose or somehow attached to the outer bearing race? If loose then I'm certain I never received one. Perhaps it had to be ordered separately. I've done probably 3500 miles on the new wheel, eek! |

If you got the wheel from Al @ American Sport Bike; the spacer was in the package. The lip on the grease seal may retain the spacer, if the spacer was put there during assembly. The spacer, if installed, cannot be seen with the wheel installed.

When I assemble a three bearing wheel, the last step prior to putting it back in the box is to put that spacer into the seal in the wheel on the brake rotor side and tape it in place with some clear tape. It's never loose in the box, it's always taped in place. But, more than once now, the person that gets the wheel has taken it, in the box, to their tire man to mount and balance the tire. The spacer gets removed during the balance phase and then gets left next to the balance machine. So, if you got a wheel from me and you don't have the spacer taped into the wheel, talk to the guy that mounted the tire. But if you've put the wheel onto the bike and it isn't giving you issues, it's almost surely there. Fairly obvious bad things happen (per what Dean has written above) when it isn't intalled. |

you will know it aint right during the install! if your rolling, you're good. i was not paying attention... if you try to put the thin spacer on the pulley side, it will actually disappear into the swingarm as it is the same OD as the ID of the hole for the axle - i thought i had lost it... brake side is the correct side LOL. thanks everyone again. a 50 mile ride on Friday, it felt GREAT : ) DEAN |
