Have a 2008 XB12XT. Filled it up and went on a ride. When I got home, garaged it. Went back out in the garage about half an hour later and smelled gas. I have gas dripping from the over flow tube and it is making a boiling sound by the swing arm. Removed the gas cap and put my ear to it and can hear the boiling sound in the tank/swing arm. Tank is not over full and could not see where tube was pinched. Any ideas? | ||

Might need to confirm that your fan works. | ||

That is normal. The engine heats up the frame, fuel gets hot, and expands, resulting in some vapor going out the overflow tube, giving the garage a gas smell. If it really bothers you, installing the carbon canister from the California models resolves the smell issue. | ||

The boiling point of gasoline varies a lot because of the different formulas they are mandated to use anywhere from 100 up close to 400 degree,winter gas with iso-butane will boil quite easy | ||

The fan was working as I heard it shut off when I went below 20 pulling into our subdivision. Just found it odd as I have head the bike for several years but never ever heard it boil before. I have had the overflow tube drop prior however. | ||

I've had this happen once with my 2009 xt. Opened fuel tank and what a shock...boiling gas ! Have a ca model so charcole filter caught most of it. Strange it has only happened once, little hard to start, but ran fine once rolling. | ||

I had also added some stabil to the tank. I am wondering if maybe the Stabil might have dropped the boiling point? | ||

how much did you add? isn't it 'sposed to be about a cap full not the whole can? | ||

Winter fuel blends are what we are pumping into our tanks right now, and they will boil much more readily that the summer stuff. Unseasonably warm weather can make the problem manifest. | ||
