I have the handlebar bag and never really noticed the tiny opening on the air filter housing. It seems that the handlebar bag blocks a lot of air that should otherwise go to the intake. Is there any grounds to this? |

No. That vent is mostly for looks. The airbox cover can get air all the way around the bottom. |

If you have an older frame, there is a snorkel under there. not so on the newer bikes. I stalled my 2008 when it was idling by covering the vent in front with my hand. Just about fouled my plugs doing it too. I had to romp on it on the highway to clear the sputter. |

Ulys never had the snorkel air opening that went up through the left side of the fuel tank. They have the little grille behind the fuel filler cap. It also gets air around the bottom of the airbox cover. I have that same Buell bar bag on my bars. It has been in place for at least five years. I cannot see any way it could stick out far enough to block the air intake. Mine has four straps that hold it right in the opening under the cross bar. |

I thought that they did away with the frame snorkel in 2007. 2006 uly didn't have snorkels? |

Natexlh1000 Posted on Thursday, October 16, 2014 - I thought that they did away with the frame snorkel in 2007. 2006 uly didn't have snorkels? Nope! My Ulysses was built in Sept 05 and does not have the snorkel. I believe they did the snorkelectomy to increase fuel capacity |

As far as I know no xb12 ever had a snorkel. Certainly no long frame ever had one. The mesh at the filler cap is cosmetic. The airbox cover doesn't seal ANYWHERE to the bike, it simply makes the airbox area "pretty" by hiding the actual airbox from view. If you killed a bike by covering that mesh...there are other issues with your motorcycle. |

My friend's XB12s from 2004 had a snorkel. So my bike stalled out when I blocked the venty hole in front that time randomly??? I'm about to swap out the plugs anyways, perhaps I should attempt to rerun the experiment. Admittedly, that little mesh hole in the front seemed too small to allow for 85HP of air to get through. Now I'm just plain confused |

Yep, it was a random coincidence. Look where the colored airbox cover meets the frame, and where it goes under the seat. There is ZERO sealing. |

My 2005 City-X XB-niner had the air inlet passage up through the left spar of the fuel tank. Also it was the shorter frame that allowed it to only run about 120 miles on a tank of fuel. It did not have the air grille in front of the fuel filler. |

All 03-05 XBs had the snorkel, all 06+ did not. There are people out there with the wrong airbox cover on their bike that does not have the vent, bike still runs fine. |
