Spent the weekend in WV at North Bend Campground in Harrisville WV ( site of the WVBR)...Three of my Canadian riding buddies rode to my house in Pittsburgh Pa last thursday...where me and two of my local riding buddies joined them and we rode down to harrisville friday morning to meet up with 5 guys i had met at the Buell rally in August...friday after setting up camp we all went to dinner...that's when it started raining...and it rained and rained some more. we ended up standing in the rain in rain gear all night around a small fire we could barely keep going drinking beer and laughing at ourselves for the most part.
It quit raining around 5am and we were kickstands up at 8am to start out a 240 mile ride down 16 to the new river gorge bridge...it started raining about ten minutes in to the ride ...but rain or no rain we were there to ride and ride we did...when we got to the Bridge it was so rainy and foggy that you couldn't see the bridge as you were riding across it...After stopping at the top and the riding down a goat trail to the bottom of the bridge..we went across the smaller ridge at the bottom of the gorge....its a pretty old bridge...not sure when it was built but the decking was wooden and it felt as if you were riding on ice going across it. Back up a goat trail on the other side and it was off to lunch at an AWESOME little cajun restaurant in Fayetteville then off to 16 for the return trip thru the twisties...Awesome road to ride 16 is...lots of mountains with running streams ...waterfalls...sweepers and all the serious curves you could ask for...all this and the rain never quit until the last 50 miles of the ride...but we had a great time anyways...And we were definitely representing what the meaning of Bad weather Bikers is.
When we got back to camp Saturday one of the guys on the ride who has family in the area offered to let us stay the night in an equipment building on a horse farm complete with gas heat and satellite tv ....instead of spending another night on a damp hillside with expected temps in the 30's...Hell yes we will and thank you! You meet the nicest most outgoing people riding a bike

Good you made it back. I was considering taking you up on the invite to come along but until I get my own Uly maintenance problems fixed that kind of a ride wouldn't be smart.

That's a nice little bridge; I've been on it in nicer weather (I've got a thing for bridges). I can well imagine that wooden deck would be slippery like goose shit when wet.

Ray, next time I'm down PA way, I'll send you a message. It might be neat to hook up for a ride -- unlike last time, where we were strangers on Ulys riding past each other!

You weren't the only one wet in WV on a Buell!
I spent Thurs-Sunday in Marlinton WV area, and it wasn't much drier there.
Nice ride up from NC Thursday, but steady rain all day Friday, damp Saturday, and raining most of the way home Sunday.
Glad we were in a motel at least.
Learned that my boots and gloves claims of waterproof is a large exaggeration, but the rest of the gear worked to keep if tolerable.
Sure slowed our speeds down.
My Uly was with 2 Super Tenere's, a ST1300, Tiger 800 XC and a BMW F650.
I rode my buddy's Super Tenere a bit. Very comfortable for my tall (6' 4") frame, and more motor personality than I expected. Also more vibes than I expected, though not horrible. Front end is just so huge and heavy looking, though.
Uly did well for most part. Slid both ends a couple times in dirty roads Friday. Every now and then the motor would cough in the rain, but not too bad.
Those conditions make me occasionally wish for ABS, like the Yamaha's had.
I think it was about an 1,100 mile weekend.
